There doesn't seem to be a standard for aisle width in our community convenience stores. But, I bet the Public Safety Code has a standard that is not enforced.

Im not sure I understand the issue. I would rather see handwritten signs than boarded up windows. We are lucky we have so many small business owners occupying our store fronts. Is your issue they aren't always in English or against code?

GMG,
I agree...to a point.
Yes, something is better than nothing, but seriously drive by some of these places. They're holes!
Adhere to the sign ordances like other businesses do, and yes, advertise in English...we are in America for crying out loud.
Let's bring a bit of class back to this city folks.
I mean, have you SEEN the giant TACOS sign on Grand (where Chuck-E-Cheese used to be) Avenue? Come on now! That should have been shut down months ago. I mean the sign should be taken down...just imagine what's next!

I have to agree with Westleigh,
If we are hoping to attract new business, new residents with tax dollars & money to spend, we have to appear
attractive enough to merit a second look. If our business districts all look like shops in Tiajuana whats to bring anybody in at all?
I recently had friends come in and meet me at the Genesee Theater --- and I was ashamed for them to have to come into town by driving out Washington Street to Genesee. What an embarrassment! And thats the street our freaking high school is on.
We need change. We need people that care. We need a government that enforces laws and codes on all levels and if thats "racial profiling" so be it.

In the event of being called a socialist or mind your own business, i will state here what we have done to combat that in my home town:
And it works!!
"In my town, we have a group of people who walk around or city centre and enforce the law as it is written down. They address persons behaving badly and ask them to either change their behaviour, or remove them from the premises.
Also stores that do not follow the code of conduct set down by the local government, wil de adressed and ASKED first to remove the things that are in violoation. They then will say they will come back to check on them.
If they have not removed the item(s) in question, they will ORDER the store-owner to remove it, or be fined by the government.
And it works, and we all have great stores, with virtually none of the writings that are displayed in your stores."
Might be an idea for Waukegan?

That is not socialism my friend, that is what we used to call good government, prior to multiculturalism. Thank you Dennis, I will pass your suggestion on to our mayor. Harold Beadling
