Ok, the first one I looked at (howstuffworks) posed the question of "why people join gangs"? The first reason they listed is poverty. Isn't that a secondary cause? In the interest of seeking the root cause of the problem don't we then have to ask what causes poverty? At the end of the article they say there is not much that can be done because the poverty and despair that is a cause still exists. the only thing they provide that comes close to a solution to the problem is to put even more people in jail and provide some community programs. They completely fail to address the root causes. This is not surprising considering the fact that our society is mostly scientifically illiterate...tending to value mythology and pseudo science but not true science.
