BUSY-BUSY-BUSY SUZY LINK FOR ALDERMAN:
#31
Larry could have very easily requested landscaping around those boxes. It seems to me that he and the rest of the city council didn't do "their" jobs by not demanding landscaping.

Let's think BIG PICTURE here folks. This is Waukegan's FUTURE we're talking about here. This is an IMPORTANT race.

Let's not be closed-minded and foolish here. Voting for Larry TenPas is voting for the same old Waukegan.

Ask yourself: Are you happy with the Waukegan you live in right now? Have you seen the decline over the years? What are you hopes for Waukegan in 10 years?

Voting for Mrs. Link is voting for change. It's voting for opportunity to better ourselves and the ward.

We're voting for Link to give her a chance to improve our ward. I encourage others to do the same.

closed-minded and foolish... nice.

I think I'll be foolish enough to walk on over and pull a Dem ballot for the primary.

Westleigh, tell us ONCE MORE how Suzy Link got the *wink-wink* ONE-UP on 'ol Waukegan with her negotiations on behalf of AT&T wherein she sank these graffiti-magnet cable boxes THROUGHOUT OUR CITY and, NoW, you're trying to tell us that good ol' Suzy Link has OUR BEST INTERESTS at heart?

We should elect Suzy Link our alderman because of ..... what?

Stockholm Syndrome?

LOL.

Suzy Link-- she's PROVEN that she has Waukegan's best interest at heart.

Vote for continued wonderful aldermanic service IN our ward.

Vote for Larry Tenpas.

kellyann, I apologize. I'm not calling you or anyone else foolish. I admit I'm a bit frustrated with this process.

We want nothing but the absolute best for Waukegan and the 6th Ward. I think we can all agree on that.

We're excited that we have a choice in this election. Is Mrs. Link the answer to all of Waukegan's problems? Absolutely not. We just don't want Waukegan to fall into more dire straights than we already are in. We just don't see it turning around with Mr. TenPas at the wheel.

I ask you to simply consider giving Mrs. Link a chance.

I do not support Link so I'm not defending her. I don't understand the logic, or lack of it rather, in placing the bulk of the blame on Link for the AT&T boxes. If a manure salesman were to propose a pile of horse shit in front of every house and then it actually happens where does the bulk of the blame lie? In the manure salesman, the aldermen who approved it without checking with their constituents first or the people who elected the aldermen and then didn't let them know they did not want a pile of horse shit in front of their houses?

I received the first piece of campaign literature from Susan Link today. I must say that it provided me a good laugh. Mrs. Link is going to correct all that ails Waukegan.
How ironic it is, since her husband Terry and his cohorts are responsible for keeping the incompetent Durkin and Hyde in office and let them destroy our city.
What is her real motive in running for alderman?

Its too bad that too many folks make too many assumptions without knowing the facts. Not sure how TypesWithFist determined that Link was the driving factor behind keeping Hyde and company in office for so long.

Bottom line is Waukegan is in a huge debt hole to the tune of 100 million. Annual revenues are roughly 67 million and declining. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out this is not a good situation. That debt is resting squarely on the backs of all the property tax payers. So while your property values are plunging in the toilet, your taxes are going to go up in 2011, and likely 2012.

The city council has talked a lot about bringing businesses into town, but there has been very little action. A questioning mind may wonder why is that? A large part of the problem is the city runs developers through miles of red tape just to obtain permits to build. If you were a city down on your luck, why wouldn’t you be laying out the red carpet to these folks? Developers get tired of the run-around and go somewhere else.

Waukegan has so much to offer with the lake front, the historic downtown buildings, the local music, and the historical homes. To make a real change the entire city council needs to go, along with all their closed minded ideas that Waukegan is nothing but an old industrial town that still has the images of 1970s and 1980s blight.

Waukegan is the last town between Chicago and Milwaukee that has not gone through their lake front re-development. Residents should begin to ask themselves why is that? Is Waukegan really that different from Racine or Kenosha, who have had similar problems? Or if you look further west, look at Elgin. Similar in size to Waukegan, almost the same type of problems with industry leaving, yet, Elgin is working hard at developing their water front area along the Fox River.

Property tax payers need to ask themselves what are they getting in return for the money they are spending each year when they write those two checks to the Lake County Collector, and how wisely is the city council spending their percentage of the levy??

Are you saying Mrs. Link disagrees with the positions her husband has taken on issues? How could you make that assumption?

Do any of you people realize how broke our city and state is? What this town needs is a change of political direction. I have heard your bleats for the city to bring in some restaurants, but if our downtown actually had anything going for it, business people would be tripping all over themselves to get in on the action. Why don't some of you social engineers put your money where your mouth is, or shut up. Take a g-o-o-o-o-d look at the layout of your so-called lucrative downtown and tell this forum which Genessee Street address you would like to locate your new restaurant or business. Our city is broke and our state is broke, just in case you thought that the stressed out taxpayers of Waukegan would subsidize your dream. Waukegan needs to learn how to run an efficient, basic, city government first, before any businessman will even consider taking a risk in this now dysfunctional, mismanaged community. The yearly average pay of your Waukegan city employee now stands at 69,000. dollars. And that doesn't include any benefits(vacation, federal holidays, accumulated sick days, and HEALTH CARE AND PENSION BENEFITS.> I have to say, most of you people sound like you think you are going to receive some kind of personal benefit from pumping up your own particular political candidates. In my humble opinion, both represent more of the same. One is a state senators wife, with a daughter on the city payroll, the other is a former, highly compensated drivers training instructor/coach with a son on the city payroll. You people really need to pull your head out of your asses and breath in some fresh air for a change, please.
