LINK cards
#11
I know I am going to blasted for this (hey BD) but the amounts given on the link card are way too high. I know very little about the card. I never had one and don't know anyone with it. It seems to me though that the budget in Illinois and other states are in trouble because of all of this welfare we are dolling out. I know very little of the Illinois budget but I bet these social programs take up probably one of the biggest chunks. It has to end. In spite of Obama we are still not a socialist country. I know Obama didn't start it but he is helping socialism along at a faster rate. Sure have welfare, have link cards but have a time limit. Does it have a time limit now? How long can someone have a link card? Forever? If that is so it shouldn't be so. I am all for social welfare if someone who's no fault of their own finds themselves down on their luck. A job loss, the death of the main breadwinner of the family but it should be temporary. It should be bridge to help those get back on their feet. It should not go on for years. We simply cannot afford it.

The prevalence of Link Cards are a sign and symptom of deeper societal problems. We need to start learning to be very cold and unfeeling or we need to change systems entirely. As time moves on there will be more and more people without work due to the technical obsolescence of workers being replaced by robotics. So as time moves on there will be more and more people being supported by less and less who work. Our current system meaning the current worker/consumer/monetary/debt system which is being controlled by a few at the very top, cannot endure that unbalanced ratio because the system itself is not a self sustaining system and is destined to fail someday. Maybe being cold and unfeeling IS the best answer. We are currently doing a pretty good job at it because there are currently between 25,000 and 30,000 people dying from starvation on planet Earth EVERY DAY so what if a few more die. I have a friend who is very religious and he attributed that to EVIL FORCES of the DEVIL. Yeah, that works for some too. The truth is it is not evil forces of the devil that is responsible or any other made up junk. It is simply the manifestations of a system that is not self sustaining reaching it's natural end. Some want to go back in time 2 or 3 hundred years as a way to effect a solution but that would be a temporary solution at best because they fail to take into account the ultimate and inevitable failure of that system.
Check out the Zeitgeist Movement. It is not some crazy cult socialist stuff. It is some very intelligent people with a better design for the future of mankind, a system that IS designed to be self sustaining for the duration of human life on planet Earth, a system based is science and logic... a much more sane system than what we have now.

I asked the cashier if that was proper for LINK to give cash to recipients (to spend on liquor/drugs/20" rims, I don't know). She said that she has seen many LINK cards with $1800. saved up on their cards and that they could receive any amount of cash back that they desired.

I want to be on the dole.

Why the reference to stereotypes, or possibly race? You could have easily made your point without.

Meanwhile, back to reality. I have seen link card purchases for $17.00 worth of doritos and bottled soft drinks. Does this seem like good nutrition to any of you? I have raised this issue among the democrats in this community and was ignored. They tend to pull out the race card if you show any concern for the children of irresponsible single mothers. I guess as long as the democrats control Illinois we will have to resign ourselves to the fact that this is only the beginning. All Illinois property owners are on the hook for our impending financial and social failure. Do you think your property has lost value now? Wait till next year.

Are you implying that only Democrats have Link Cards? {Please tell me I'm wrong and that I should ignore the statement you made)

I was a democrat committeeman for about 18 years so those are the people that I raised many issues with and finally got tired of their foolishness and changed parties. My new party isn't perfect, but at least I can bring issues to the floor for discussion. The democrats don't like to admit that alot of their social programs have worsened adults and childrens lives. I grew up in North Chicago, so cut me some slack already. I was also the only white member of The Lake County Civic Organization, The Honorable Leon Chamblin, President. They don't make them like Mr. Chamblin anymore. I miss him.

It does if you are starving or dying of thirst.
