Mayor Bob, WTF?

fintan1010 Wrote:for what it's worth...my two cents...

noone from crew is backing away from bob. crew did a thorough job of interviewing ALL candidates (mayor hyde decided-at the very last minute-not to show up). bob was by far the best. he has been presented with many very difficult situations. perhaps if the previous administration (alderman included) hadn't left things in such a terrible state we wouldn't be in trouble we are now.

i have said this many times, in many places...

i will give our new mayor a fair chance. if he doesn't do a good job, i will work just as hard to get him out, as i did to get him in.

There they go again...CREW thinks they got Bob elected, but it was ordinary citizens tired of nothing happening. CREW's impact was only amongst their little elite friends.

"There they go again...CREW thinks they got Bob elected, but it was ordinary citizens tired of nothing happening. CREW's impact was only amongst their little elite friends."

Seems like the ordinary citizens should be paying attention to what is happening in the Mayor's office now as well as CREW.

The more eyes on the situation, the more concerned individuals participating, the better.

You can occupy yourself with who did what all day long; if you truly feel that is the best way to spend your time.

The fact is CREW did help get Sabonjian elected, as did the Hispanic vote that mobilized, as did the ordinary citizens tired of nothing happening, as did Sabonjian's family and friends, as did disgruntled City employees, as did individuals with personal signage directed at Hyde, as did the majority of those who voiced their opinion by voting for Mayor in the last election. To discount ANY of the efforts put forth discounts them all.

This unfortunately is why Waukegan is what it is. Instead of banding together to find common cause; it is far more typical to point fingers and segregate. We are seeing that segregation now at City Hall and with the Council / Mayor relationship.

The topic of this thread is so very valid and concerning. That is what we should be concentrating on.

Really, why aren't we concentrating on trying to find out why Mayor Bob tendered a resignation and put it into order to only have it rescinded a day later. You want to take credit for putting a person like that in office? Go Ahead!

Also, did anyone attend the council meeting and witness the interaction of the Mayor, Ald. Tenpas and counselor Finn? I reall think that the Mayor was trying to exert his authority, Tenpas was about to have a stroke and Finn had absolutely no idea what he was doing or how to run a meeting in accordance with roberts rules.

Let's not forget Alderman Larsen, who kept blowing his nose into the microphone. The whole spectacle was embarrassing.

I attended the meeting last night and was appalled by the behavior of our “leaders” (I use that word loosely). Most of the Aldermen looked bored and were half asleep throughout the whole meeting. Not only should the Mayor resign, I think most of the Aldermen should resign as well. Has anyone been able to get a copy of the “budget document” that was referred to last night as being available to the public for the past 10 days? I have requested a copy from my Alderman. What do you think the chances are that I will actually receive it? I only hope the large presence will influence the outcome.

Larsen is given to picking his nose at council meetings, so count yourself as lucky that he was only blowing.

Citizens of Waukegan need to attend City Hall meetings! Alderman Sam Cunningham slept through most of the meeting and only awakened after two hours of lively debate towards the 11 o'clock hour to "table" a matter that Sam had just slept through. Sam is so trifling that he couldn't he more benign unless he were Edith Newsome. You could actually see Mayor S. working Edith Newsome like a PUPPET (her constituents would be amazed that she actually admitted to having nothing--budget, prior meeting minutes, etc-- with her and not able to answer the simplest of questions) as she plainly sat there like she was at home in front of the TV. During the audience comment period, it was brought up that most-nearly none of the people working industry at the lakefront actually live in Waukegan and that the aldermen and Mayor should actually REPRESENT the people/interests of Waukegan and not the lakefront industry that contributed heavily to "especially one alderman's campaign chest". The speaker did not mention the alderman's name but pointedly looked at Alderman Sam Cunningham at the end of the room--as did everybody else in the room--to which Sam was sleeping, and all chuckled and tittered at the "bought" man. Larry Tenpas was the only alderman actually prepared for city business and right on his parliamentary points although at times the audience wished that he would acquiesce and let Mayor S. cherry pick what he wanted on the nights' agenda--never mind parliamentary law. Newton Finn (who will charge our city TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS for his salary), sadly, does not have any grasp of parliamentary procedure or knowledge to running a meeting. His PREDESSESOR had to chair the previous judiciary meeting(!)that night. Waukegan citizens would be embarrassed at the charade of our new Mayor behaving exactly like he did during Lake County Board meetings with high-handed tactics that smacked of entitlement (or signs of his bi-polar illness) only to resign every-gosh-darn-single committee that he was ever appointed to because as our Mayor S. said: "....he could not get along with fellow committeemen....". I am not sure if Mayor S. will be able to be anything to our city except a lightning rod of divisiveness and truculence. What was evident during the meeting is that our new Mayor has no clue to dealing with the EPA and cleaning up our lakefront as he repeatedly told us that during meetings with the EPA they verbally said "this" and would ensure "that" so "not to worry". Is he KIDDING us? Does Newton Finn have any idea of how foolish and stupid the new mayor and he will look in a couple of years when the EPA does nothing of what Mayor S. "S A I D" that they would do? The old council, Jeff Jeep, who litigated--and successfully so--the EPA to clean up the lakefront the PROPER way got up there and said that everything that the mayor and his council were "TOLD" was against everything that he had in WRITING. Hmmm, is our new mayor and his chief council so naive that they believe what they are TOLD from the EPA? Hint: get everything from the government IN WRITING and SIGNED. Does Mayor S. really think like this? People were talking that it's obvious that Mayor S. and Newton Finn know nothing about the harbor/lakefront clean up and we all wished that Jeff Jeep could continue to press the EPA on our behalf. Then again, there was all of the lakefront industry money going into the coffers of Mayor S. and Alderman Cunningham one way or the "other".
Yes, Waukegan citizens should attend their City Hall meetings to see what's going on. It's a shame.

Greetings all!
We were also at last night's City Council meeting, and would like to thank all of the Waukegan Police, Fire & Public Yard employees for their participation & solidarity. It was wonderful to see everyone attend and refreshing to see everyone conduct themselves so professionally.

The taxpayers of Waukegan truly do have a voice because "evil wins when good people fail to speak!" ~W.S

We would like to publicly commend Alderman TenPas for showing his leadership at the meeting. You are right...he DID know the rules of order, and held Mayor S. and Mr. Finn to them. Although it seemed like bickering on his part, he was actually correct in standing his ground. Mayor S. cannot/should not remove agenda items arbortrairly (sp?). Good job TenPas for not letting him do so!

This meeting brought the citizens of Waukegan togther, regardless of Democrat, Republican, Independent views. Kudos!!

Mayor S...the taxpayers of Waukegan have you on our radar...you made many promises for a "better Waukegan." We want/expect to see those promises carried out...
