Gosh, yes I do realize that. Still doesn't add up. The comments are not mine. MC herself has posted that there are thousands of illegal aliens in our fair town.

WAUKEGAN -- State Rep. Eddie Washington is in and 6th Ward Ald. Larry TenPas is out as the 2009 race for mayor slowly takes shape.
"I just think people should have an array of choices, and I want to be one of them," said Washington, who plans to be on the April 7 ballot as an independent. "It wasn't any scripted plan, (but) I've been very much surprised with the number of people who support this decision."
Like County Board member Bob Sabonjian, who is also looking to run as an independent, Washington has until 5 p.m. Monday to file petitions with a minimum of 427 signatures and a maximum of 683. Washington added that he would resign his House seat if elected.
Meanwhile, TenPas said Friday that he pulled petitions to run earlier this month after Mayor Richard Hyde was hospitalized with a ruptured appendix, but decided not to file them as Hyde's health improved.
"No, I'm not running," TenPas said. "I was quite concerned about the mayor, but now I can see he's going to make a complete recovery ... I'm backing Dick Hyde 100 percent."
Among the people watching these developments closely are members of the Citizens for the Resurgence of Excellence in Waukegan (CREW), which was formed in October with a mission statement supporting "the establishment of a new mayoral administration."
Toward that end, the 53-member group has been conducting interviews with each mayoral hopeful, planning to issue an endorsement and campaign for a selected candidate.
"We're a group of people who are concerned about Waukegan. (We're) not looking to oust anyone," said CREW co-founder Steve Kolber. "The whole focus behind all of this is identifying the potential of each candidate (and) educate ourselves as to who is the most qualified person to lead the city."
To date, CREW has conducted interviews with Sabonjian, Republican Greg Flesher, and Democratic candidates Sam Cunningham and Jose Guzman, posting reports at <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.waukegancrew.org">www.waukegancrew.org</a><!-- w -->. Kolber said Hyde cancelled a scheduled session, and Washington will be added to the list if he files on Monday.
"We just want to create an awareness among the electorate. The voter turnout has been terrible, and such slim margins have decided elections," Kolber said, adding that his group hopes to connect with "the thousands of registered voters who don't even bother to go out and vote."

CREW sounds interesting- it will be intriguing to see who they choose to back, but I have to agree with Danno- the fact Kolber is
involved makes me leery...

I don't think that Tenpas has ever really wanted to run---remember when he "ran" the last time? I never thought he would actually run agains Mayor Hyde.

Steve Kolber and xxxxx xxxxxx represent a fraction of CREW. They have no more say in the decision-making process than me, you, or anyone else. Additionally, they have no control on election day. CREW members and citizens of Waukegan ultimately vote for whomever they want: CREW is just facilitating that process by creating an informed electorate, and backing the best candidate.

I didn't see Jose Guzman Jr's name in the last paragraph for 2nd ward -didn't he get back on the ballot? Any news on a forum/debate in February? I would love to go hear these people talk about our city and their plans.

WAUKEGAN -- The deadline for candidates to join the April 7 mayoral elections arrived Monday with the expected filing of two high-profile entries: Lake County Board member Robert Sabonjian and state Rep. Eddie Washington, D-Waukegan.
With the two local officeholders entering the race on the final day, a total of five men are in play for the four-year seat. In the Feb. 28 primary, Republican Greg Flesher will run unopposed, and the Democratic field will include 1st Ward Ald. Sam Cunningham, Jose L. Guzman and incumbent Richard Hyde.
In Gurnee, three candidates filed for the mayor's race: Trustee Greg Garner, incumbent Kristina Kovarik, and past trustee candidate Tony Maniscalco.
Filing petitions to run for the three open trustee seats on the Gurnee Village Board were incumbent Jeanne Balmes, former Congressional candidate Kirk Morris, incumbent David Ohanihan, former trustee Mark Ratfelders and incumbent Hank Schwarz.
Challenges to general election candidate petitions must be submitted by Feb. 2. In Waukegan, any objections would go before an electoral board composed of Hyde, Motley and the senior alderman, Larry TenPas (6th Ward).
With Hyde as a candidate, he would have to recuse himself from the board. Either the second-most senior alderman or a circuit court appointee would join the panel. In 2003, when Hyde and Motley were candidates, attorneys Thomas Gurewitz and Richard Kopsick were appointed by the court to weigh a challenge to the Rev. C.L. Fairchild's candidacy.
Rounding out the electoral field in Waukegan are Democratic clerk candidates Motley and Hank Bogdala, Democratic treasurer candidates Patrick Dutcher (incumbent) and John Schwab, and Democratic 2nd Ward aldermanic candidates Susan Bailey, Thomas J. Koncan Jr. (incumbent) and Pat Seger.
