Westleigh, by the way, I didn't come up with my moniker because of Suzy Link, it was because of the LINK card that I was posting about. However, the coincidence has been fortuitous.

Let me start by saying that what ever happens on this board has little meaning or value because not very many people participate in it or find it a valuable tool. If you are really impassioned, you will write letters to the editor, call your neighbors and be an active part of our community, not hide and slam people that you have little or no affiliaton with and are completly uneducated on the facts!
That said, I have a few quick points - The WBA evolved into the City of Waukegan Chamber of Commerce under the leadership of Mrs. Link, given the image of this city and the general morale, I find this noteworthy that the organization is more than 150 members strong. The Chambe serves ALL of the community, if there was an area of the city that anyone feels has not been served by the Chamber, I am sure that a simple call to the Chamber would solve the issue. My company is a dues paying member of the Chamber and we attend nearly every event - sometimes 2 or 3 per month and Mrs. Link is in attendance at all of them ( so I am unsure why "susielinksux" thinks she spends so much time in Florida??) The real issue here is that we have an alderman that has been in office more than 30 years...this is part of the problem. If Alderman TenPas was so strong then why would he allow the city to be in the situation that it is, he too sat on the Finance Committee for many years. Hmmm? The real issue is that the home value in Waukegan has steadily declined and that has to do with the ENTIRE council. The real issue is that the quality of life in Waukegan sucks..I do all of my shopping in Kenosha or Gurnee, I can't find a good (or bad for that matter) place to have a steak, I can't purchase a book because there are no bookstores, maybe just maybe with the election of Mrs. Link and a new city council we will have the option of a better quality of life. The people of Waukegan are so used to getting nothing from thier aldermen that they do not know how to accept the fact that there are other options than setteling for the same old thing. I do not know Mrs. Link very well, but we have talked, I doubt that she will deliver you tomatos or shovel your sidewalk, but as far as I am concerned that is not what an alderman is for. She also will not bully you into voting for her, she will let you make your own informed and educated decisions. Give Mrs. Link a chance, you migh just be surprised.

Jeff (SuxLinkSux),
This 6th Ward family is supporting Susan Link for Alderman. Happy to do so! It is simply time for a POSITIVE change in Waukegan. Larry has been our Alderman for 30+ years and in that time, our city and ward have slowly declined. We cannot afford anymore decline in Waukegan, and frankly, don't deserve it. I am a lifelong Waukegan resident and am tired of "business as usual." Larry is "business as usual." I agree with you that the 6th Ward is the best run ward. Is that Larry's doing? Hardly. This ward has been well-run because we are "fortunate" enough to have residents who care for Waukegan and their neighborhoods. The 6th Ward has only maintained itself over the years because of the types/sizes of homes located here...not the aldermen. Larry might mow lawns and clean snow but we need an alderman now who can help develop our ward & city for years to come. We believe Susan will help facilitate this positive growth and look forward to supporting her.

Whatever Larry does in his position as alderman is done for one reason and one reason only... to benefit Larry.

bah humbug Suzy.
Your 'talking points' of buying a steak and book have been around this town more times than scooping the loop. If you were so against how this city was run, why did you 'lay in bed' with Mayor Hyde for all those years? Where did your step daughter come by that city hall job? NOW you're unhappy. Larry Tenpas did not remain alderman for 30 years because of poor performance. LOL. With you as alderman--and given how you feel about our current mayor-- how will two years of you and he fighting work out for our ward? For our city? ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Do constituents of the 6th ward want to trade away a PROVEN alderman for somebody with the current resume that Suzy Link has that monopolizes her time? When will she ever find time for us? A: She won't be able to. She's busy.

I think you meant...busy, busy, busy

This isn't about grass cutting or vegetables being delivered. This is about someone being willing to put worth the tremendous effort that the job demands.
During the blizzard, Ald. TenPas was out in the neighborhood checking on people. If Mrs. Link was concerned about the 6th ward she could have done the same. Did she? I don't believe so. I was outside for 7 hours straight and I never saw her. Has she checked on the business owners? I spoke with 2 of them today, neither have ever met her. Mrs. Link has not visited me, she has not put a flyer in my door, she has not called my cell. She does not appear concerned about getting my vote. Perhaps she knows that I would ask real questions, hard questions. What did the WBA accomplish? I want a concrete answer, not "It grew into the Chamber of Commerce". What are her plans for the North Ave corridor? What has the C of C done for these businesses so far? How will she handle her multiple commitments? What commitments will take priority? Who comes first? Why is our neighborhood littered with ugly AT&T boxes? Do the people of Lake Forest deserve better than us? How much time does she plan to spend out of this area? I am certain it is more than the, "2 weeks vacation", she has stated. How does she plan to work with Mayor Sabonjian? When she has spent 2 years calling him vicious names. When she is ready to provide solid answers, I am willing to listen.

Whenever I see one of those butt-ugly ATT boxes (ESPECIALLY if it's covered with graffiti) I immediately think of Suzy Link.
I might just have to vote in the dem primary so I can cast a vote for Larry. |
