That's just a sad reply. Schools and kids are a very important part of any community. You can throw as much money as you want at schools but unless people are willing to get involved it really is not going to change. At the very least, parents of students should be involved at the schools. Even if they show their faces one time a year to help in a class or make copies for teachers..whatever...it would make a big difference. Kids often look at school as a place where they can't be touched by parents.When they are at school their families really don't know what they are doing or who they are hanging with. If kids knew that their parents were involved, interested and a part of the educational system many would pay more attention to their actions at the school. Many of the goofy wannabe or poser trouble makers would make better choices and it would give the teacher more time to focus on teacher instead of policing the student body. This isn't just an random idea, it is a proven fact. Why do you think many private schools require family co-op hours? It makes the schools stronger. So hem and haw all you want...parental/family involvement would be a huge assest to the Waukegan schools.
