All of the sudden, our building permit process is responsible for Waukegan being in its 'dire straits'. Two years ago, just before the entire United States economy tanked, there were signs of good development all over downtown. Logically, it is this downturn in the economy that has stalled development. I don't see ANY TOWN--from Greenwich, Ct to Palm Springs, CA--that is not dealing with the exact same issues that Waukegan is. Our city is in our 6th year of a 20 year master plan, so I don't see anything wrong here that could be blamed on the building permit process. A lot of us have dealt with the city on building permits and it's easier here than many North Shore communities.

The Karcher Hotel/Arts project is occurring now as is the redevelopment of a playhouse and both will bring people into our community when they are completed.

Why is it NOW that the evils of our building permit process are being debated?

Why not when the Links' pal, Dick Hyde, was in office?

Why only now is it being brought up instead of at the mic at a city hall meeting?

In fact, if Suzy Link cared so much for our ward and this city, why has she not spoken at city hall meetings to let her concerns be known?

Where have her letters to the editor in various publications-- showing her commitment to our city-- been?

I have a strong suspicion that Suzy Link is here today, tan tomorrow.

WHY should we throw Larry Tenpas out of office for Suzy Link? He has demonstrated hard work and pride in our ward. When you or your mom or grandmother needed help in our ward, Larry showed up to help. Period.

Why would we get rid an alderman that makes house calls for an alderman that won't?

**Show up at Suzy's gathering on Grove this week and watch Suzy demonstrate how she alone is going to cure all of Waukegan's ills by changing rocks into 'gold'.

This is very entertaining sitting back and watching all of the mechanics of local politics. Some of it is sickening. Most of it is humorous.

I could never vote for Larry. I watched him operate for years... ever since High School. Ask me about what happened in Drivers Ed class one summer day? If he did today what happened back in 1973 and someone reported it he would likely lose his job. His approach to city government is based in corruption and bullying. Even his campaign for office is based in corruption. It's all about "what can you do for me and what can I do for you" rather than what is fair and just. It is that stale old way of thinking and lack of professionalism that has held our city back for years.

Don't forget, it was Larry who not long ago officially attempted to eliminate the opportunity for the public to address the council during public meetings.

It’s good to know that there are some folks in the ward who actually understand how things work. I can tell you that Mrs. Link had no say about the landscaping around the boxes that were put in to provide uverse service. I called city hall about those boxes when they were first put in and learned that the city negotiated whether to have them landscaped or not. Obviously they chose not to have them landscaped.
Second, while I don’t think that Mrs. Link or anyone for that matter can solve all of the problems in Waukegan it is clear that Larry TenPas hasn’t done much in the 32 years he has been in office to revitalize the city. Yes we are now in a recession. But we haven’t been in one for the past 32 years. Where has he been for all that time. Oh yeah, bringing people flowers and tomatoes from his garden. That really helps our home values doesn’t it?
Other communities in Lake County are moving forward despite the recession. Waukegan hasn’t moved anyway but down for many many years.
We need new leadership to take this city in a new direction. There are two choices on the ballot on February 22, Mr. TenPas or Mrs. Link. You can choose to go in the same old direction and choose TenPas or you can vote for change by voting for Mrs. Link. I believe it is definitely time for a big change in Waukegan and I will be voting for Mrs. Link.

Everyone who knows you has your number. As for Larry Sometimes he’s a democrat and other times he’s a republican. Maybe Larry goes both ways in everything he does in life. Just sayin……

Larry certainly does not deserve re-election. Although Larry parades his fiscal stinginess he voted for everything that has brought Waukegan to its lowest point.

However, I don't find any reason to vote for Susan Link. So experience in city governance, is extremely busy with her other activities, and a seeming disdain for the unwashed public. I doubt she will take the time to deal with the everyday problems of residents of the 6th Ward, unless they live on Sheridan Rd. Actually, having spoken to her, I find her, too nouveau riche bourgeois.
