Storefront Window Signage

I find such signs as photographed here to be confusing, too busy and not appealing. I am disappointed in the City of Waukegan for not enforcing
our "Sign Ordinances" in these instances.

The law is for all, that is how this country works. No matter who, where from, or whatever demographic group.
We definitely have a "sign issue" here that our city government needs to address.

First amendment 101-
1. Government is very limited in it's ability to regulate the content of free expression.
2. Each of us must understand the importance of defending most stongly that free expression which we disagree with.

With that said, it looks like some of those are in violation of the Waukegan Sign Ordinance, which states in part: "No window sign shall have a total measured sign area gin excess of 20% of the window area in which it is located".

In the past City of Waukegan ordinances have always been selectively enforced. I hope that is no longer the case.

I AGREE. All of those signs makes a person wonder just where in hell am I? Did I cross over the Border and didn't know it? (Especially if you're full of LEGAL DRUGS) Case in point: I've opened a Restaurant and on the windows I've written HAMHOCKS, GREENS, CORNBREAD, ETC. How long do you think it would take for the CODE ENFORCER to pay me a visit? I hope the Mayor read these comments and clean that mess up. How does our City look to out-of-towners?

I have no idea how long it would take code to pay you a visit (Is Johnny still there) but I'll be right over for a mess-o-greens and some cornbread. I might even try some chitlins if you got em. Mmmmmm!

What really breaks my heart is that the Hispanic beauty salon used to be a U.S. Post Office.

This is how the business looks lately -I don't know if it is open or not. The lower flag has been a small rag of green for some time. That surprises me.

I think someone (in good health) should go to a City Council meeting and bring this up---put the Mayor on the spot. In fact, I nominate you Danno.

I would like to see the Waukegan Chamber of Commerce take this issue on, and work with the existing businesses to spruce up their windows and make their shops more appealing.

It seems that our chamber of commerce is a reflection of our city leadership.
