News Sun: we need a better local news source.
#11
Dont worry the news sun will be gone in a couple of months. The Daily H. needs to start distrubuting in Waukegan and covering some local stuff.

I fall far short in my grammar skills, but it seems to me you have composed a run on sentence. I am going to guess that you are a typical City of Waukegan employee. Oh God, don't tell me you are a Waukegan teacher with political clout.

 Some of the bad proofing is the very reason I'm a tad angry at times that I can't get a job, despite the 4 years I put in to get a Graphic Arts Bachelor's Degree which covers this very kind of thing. All about a lack of "experience" or whatever that excuse entails. At least I know how to proofread the freaking English language! (And if I was being paid, I'd also have a dictionary and Strunk & White Elements of Style handy for those times of doubt.) C'mon folks!

I've also seen others doing newspaper work put black text on a dark background. Ok? Were they sleeping during the typography class that points out this is an obvious no-no. Easy to fix with white text and boosting the font-weight for bleed... But apparently idiots that ignore this concept have more experience than what would qualify myself.

I still don't think it's Mr. Foster or the local crew though (I did have a temp gig for a short bit at the end of Sunset there, where they do editing for the Waukegan/Lake County paper. So I got to know some people. But it was some short-lived IT data-logging assistance thing for network hiccups, and didn't shoehorn over to something where there would be better use of my skills.) As far as I know, a lot (if not all) of the web stuff is done in their main office in Chicago or the one in Plainfield. More of a Sun-Times News Group parent company kludge.

But I do know I could do a better job than whoever it is. Shame I can't get a job at it, despite the debt incurred for an education that should be an investment. (BTW, if anyone needs freelance work short of actually printing stuff don't hesitate to ask. Nudge nudge... Wink )

Today they reported on a Waukegan 4 year old being onthe cover of Parent magazine.
But the caption inuder the picture says she's from Gurnee.

Yesterday they reported a ganbanger fired 28 shots in Round Lake Beach, then said nearly two dozen rounds were fired, then that they found 18 shell casings, then that he fired 23 rounds!

Where do they get these reporters and editors.
Maybe it will get better now that the paper has been sold.
We can only hope.

After 15 years of News-Sun home delivery I finally decided to let it lapse. I received my renewal bill Halloween week and while deciding whether this was worth the current yearly subscription rate of $208.00, I looked at that day's paper with a front page color photo of three Waukegan Police Department Records Clerks( in Halloween costumes). The " news" article with it informed me what fun it is( for them) to wear their costumes to work. This year's theme was Military fatigues, next year they were thinking of a Disco theme. It( the whole article) made me feel so warm and happy, I tossed it( the bill) in my recycling bin.

How sad is it that this story was printed without getting comments from the person it was written about?

Wkgn Main Street chief lasts two months

Main Street chief lasts two months

She called Dan Moran this morning to give her side of the story. Hopefully that will be in the paper tomorrow.
