Guzman the Gangster for Mayor
#11
I suggest everyone send this youtube link to everyone in their address book that votes in Waukegan. In my email I also provided a link to this forum so the police report can be viewed.

When I think of his campaign and what he said at CREW -I think it is a campaign based on revenge. For what happened to his relative and other members of the community. I do not feel he would bring us all together and spend the majority of his time for economic growth and better schools. The interview speaks for itself; he would go after the police department, rescind 287g application and cut out any effectiveness the code compliance department has.

Get everyone you can to get out and vote during this primary. Do research about the son as well. Is he still on the ballot for 2nd alderman? I've heard him speak numerous times and was equally turned off by his aggressiveness and one-sided support for certain people.

We know how his organizational skills went during the boycotts.... Again the threats....

Proposal leads to boycott threat

By Andrew L. Wang
Tribune staff reporter
Published July 4, 2007

Activists in Waukegan who oppose a program that would empower police to
enforce federal immigration law ratcheted up the rhetoric this week,
threatening to boycott businesses that support the measure.

Jose Guzman, head of the Waukegan branch of the Labor Council for Latin
American Advancement, said the city's Latino residents are fed up with
mistreatment at the hands of police. The city's unwillingness to back
off pursuing federal immigration training is a line in the sand, Guzman
said, and another example of what he called Waukegan's "anti-immigrant"
policies.

"We can finish this tomorrow, we can do this today; all they have to do
is pull out [of the program]," Guzman said. "We don't want to [boycott],
but they forced us to do it."

He said many details of the boycott, being organized by his group and
the Chicago-based immigrant-rights group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, have yet
to be determined. Organizers will attempt to determine which local
businesses support the federal program and broadcast the information via
Spanish-language radio and meetings, asking residents not to patronize
those establishments.

Boycott the businesses indeed.
Why not boycott the whole city of Waukegan? Why not really teach Waukegan a lesson... and move???
Why not just leave Waukegan...
I hate being threatened. I wish I had a business in Waukegan just so I could show my support of 287g, and indeed show my support of all the laws.
I'll never forget Ted Hayes standing in front of Waukegan City Hall.. shouting Secure our Borders, Enforce our Laws, Revoke the Anchor Baby Clause. I love that man!

So the News Sun isn't going to cover this 'big' story because???? If it's good enough to be covered in LaRaza why not our own home town paper.

We need to keep asking.

Big Story? Best part of the video when he says "Are you going to pay me for this?" See minute 1:44 then begs for food later. Sure it could have happened or it could just be a hungry guy hustling for his next meal ticket. The people taking this video are shameless to exploit this guy to fan the fire of a political beef.

Notice I put big in quotes -I was being a bit tongue in cheek about the whole thing.

However, the police report does mention that Zavala says he has recordings of threatening phone calls from Guzman about this issue. So I imagined the couple wanted to tape Michael Young for further proof for the police. If anyone has heard Guzman speak he can be loud and aggressive. I imagine the couple are taking him and his threats seriously and want this investigated.

It seems like his supporters have a right to know about this issue. Yet, hearing them at the debate maybe they wouldn't care as long as Guzman comes across with his three promises. Although technically he can't yes? It's the council who has the power to change those; 287g, towing ordinance, code enforcement ordinances.

**I am more curious why the News Sun hasn't done this story yet. They published less dirt about local politicians so why not this. Smile

Maybe the NewsSun and the Waukegan Leadership Council don't know about the 'Guzman Affair'.
Could Hyde be surpressing it in the hope that Guzman and Cunningham will split enough of the vote that Hyde will win the Primary?
Hyde vs. Sabonjian would be one heck of race.
I just don't know who to vote for in the Primary.
Obviously not Guzman.
But, how do you choose between Hyde and Cunningham?
Maybe I'll just wait until the April election. But then there'll be a Republican candidate too.
What's his platform? Hell, what's his name? I can't remember.
Everyone I know is talking about Sabonjian and now that Washington is out of it, I kind of think he has a better shot at winning in April
but I STILL can't make up my mind until I hear something from the Republican candidate.

The views for the video have gone up to 371 and there are a handful of comments in Spanish. They don't seem to be buying it or say it's typical Waukegan -I think. Google isn't translating them well.

Words getting out it seems.
