With all of the pollutants we spew into the air, and all the waste products we bury, I don't know how anyone could think the human population on this earth is not affecting the planet adversely.

Verena, the global warming hoax is centered on carbon dioxide emissions, not particulate, chemical, or solid waste. I posted this article to inform readers, who may not yet have heard about the scandal(though I can't imagine how) now surrounding the so-called climate "experts" at the University of East Anglia and other "credible" institutions around the globe. I think if anyone wants to post a "rebuttal" to a posted article, they should, at least, post a link backing up their opinion, unless they state themselves as experts in the particular field at issue. My point is this, if this forum expects to hold on to members that actually read up on the issues and post informative articles, we should also be allowed to respond to a reply, if that reply is obviously based on a personal opinion(ideology,)rather than the facts stated in said article. You wanna know what's wrong with Waukegan, call me, I'm in the book. Harold Beadling

Harold, there is a lot of money to be made by Al Gore and the likes if they can preserve this elaborate hoax. You can bet it won't go away quietly.
The reality is, global temperatures (by East Anglia's own admission) have not risen, but rather have dropped over the past 15 years, and are in line with centennial "norms." Yes, they even offset the "global cooling" that was all the rage of our media in the 1970's. By the way, who decided what the norms are? Are measurements of less than 10% of the world over the past 100 years really representative of the entire earth's history? Let's face it: the earth has been warming and cooling since long before cars, factories, CFC's, and aerosols. To attribute these cycles to man's activity is sheer arrogance.

We have REAL scientists on one side of the issue. These are the same kind of scientists that created a vaccination that pretty much stopped polio, these are the same kind of scientists that have saved countless lives by using the SCIENTIFIC METHOD to create anti-biotic therapy. This is the same kind of science that is unravelling the mysteries of the cosmos, the genetic code of dna and the fact of evolution. And then on the other side we have people motivated by politics, religion and greed. Boy, that's a tough decision which one to go with.... real tough. I'm just glad the earth is flat otherwise those on the bottom would all fall off.

Danno, you have presented absolutely no facts. All you have done is present some assertions, most of which are false. But let's look at your claims for a minute.
Your "real scientists" have been discarding data that doesn't suit their premise for over 10 years. When the data doesn't match the hypothesis, normal people re-evaluate the hypothesis (at least that's what the scientific method USED TO say). This isn't open to debate. East Anglia and the IPCC have admitted it in their own words.(1) They lied. And politics and religion? Any scientist who disputes AGW has been ridiculed, dismissed, fired, or otherwise pressured by political forces.(2) Greed? Al Gore and his minions have made MILLIONS of dollars off this hoax.(2) Of course, he needs to so that he can power all those expensive lights and fly that private jet of his all round the world. Yes, lights and jets, the very things "causing" AGW. Fact of the matter is, the earth has been MUCH warmer and MUCH cooler in the past, without humans pumping CO2 into the atmosphere. "Real scientists" look no further than the Medieval Warming Period for a prime example. Al Gore is not a real scientist; his opinion is that of an uninformed observer, same as someone like Rush Limbaugh, so as far as I'm concerned he's out of the equation for me. Also, a few days of colder or even a few years of cold weather does not make a trend. I have to laugh when I hear some idiot say something like: "last March was the coldest on record so that means global warming can't exist". The fact is that the earth has never seen a warming trend come on so quickly as this one. The fact is there has been a corresponding increase in man made carbon dioxide in the same exact time period. More facts.... Fact no. 1 - Greenhouse gasses cause planets to get warmer, sometimes out of control warmer... just look at Venus. Fact no. 2 - Human activity has produced a whole lot of one particular kind of known greenhouse gas here on Earth in the last 150 or so years. Fact no. 3 - The planet Earth has been getting warmer for the last 150 years in direct proportion to the amount of increase in greenhouse gas increase. Also the theory that because the Earth has seen many fluctuations in average temperature in the past that were caused by natural occurrences, therefore humans can't be the cause of temperature fluctuations, is faulty. It fails to take into consideration new data... that being human activity. That would be analogous to saying that it is impossible for humans to start forest fires because for the past million years forest fires have been started by natural occurrences such as lightning. One more point. The scientific method is not a recipe. It is easy to attack because it does not operate on the same type of absolute certainty some people are accustom to via religion or demagoguery. The scientific method itself is easy to attack because of its peer review elements which are open to scrutiny and criticism and because it is an ongoing process which constantly develops more accurate and comprehensive information and data as time goes on. More and more I find myself putting my faith in science. Politics and religion have done very little for the betterment and advancement of humankind⦠science has.

Danno, you are also right about a few facts, but you made a major logical error.
Yes, greenhouse gases by definition warm the planet. And yes, man has produced greenhouse gases, albeit nothing in comparison to the forces of nature. To draw a direct corollary between these two facts and ignore the other major forces at work is ridiculous. (Example: Volcanoes pump millions of tons of carbon and other greenhouse-causing elements into the atmosphere all the time.) It's like saying you drove on I-94 today, and there was an accident on I-94, so you caused the accident. The logic just doesn't add up. The reason the earth has warmed over the past 150 years is because we the "Little Ice Age" ended approximately 150 years ago. What you really are saying is that today's "normal" temperatures are warmer than a 500-year cold spell. By the way, we're not talking about a coldest day, or month, or even winter. East Anglia says 15 years of cooling. That's not statistically insignificant when you are talking 150 years of data. |
