6th Ward Alderman
#1
This is a serious post, as a follow-up from the one posted here a few months back.

I live in the 6th Ward, and would like to begin a serious discussion about the next election and who will be running for alderman?

This Ward is gorgeous, always has been, and it's up to us to maintain, and better-yet, improve the Ward! Because of the sizes and ages of the homes, this Ward has the highest home values. Don't you want to keep it that way? I sure do!

I want to support someone who will be as diligent and present as TenPas (he's always driving around and chatting it up with residents and I like this) and will also have some spunk.

Someone who will challenge the other aldermen and not be afraid to put the BEST interests of the Ward & city first.

Do you all know what a "gem" of a ward we live in here? Honestly, it's up to us to keep slum landlords out (there are a few here and there), positive business development (if I were an alderman I sure wouldn't be voting in any more liquor stores or auto parts shops for God sake!) and good PR for the city & our ward. This ward has the opportunity to attract folks from other cities to purchase (at a nice price) the large, old homes really only found here. There are parts of the ward deemed "historic." There are many, many other blocks that could have the historic label added. Do you KNOW how living in a historic district boosts the value of your homes?

This ward has so much potential, because of it's rich and beautiful past! It is still wonderful, but come on folks...let' s have a serious discussion about EXCELLENT candidates we'd put in office.

Tell us about a neighbor, leader, young mover and shaker or all around good person who lives in the 6th Ward we should know about? Why not shoulder-tap them and put the idea in their minds?

We have nothing to loose and everything, everything to gain!

Hi, Marilyn, as I stated in the past, why won't you let your husband run for alderman? Why do you always have to be the one in control?

(chuckling) It's funny when people think you're one person...and then you're really not!

No, this isn't Marilyn. I'm assuming you're taking about Marilyn Miosio (sp?). I never met her; don't know her at all. Her son is the alderman, right? I think I'm actually young enough to be her daughter.

But let's get back to the original question...Who are folks we can back in the 6th Ward that would make us proud to be residents of this ward?!

Come on people...everybody knows this is the nicest Ward in Waukegan...am I right? There are other beautiful pockets here and there; I used to live in one in the 9th Ward-very nice. But decided the only way I was going to remain in Waukegan was if I found a home in the 6th Ward...and thankfully, we did!

Now, when it's time for the next election, who can we vote into office?

TenPas is overall good people...had him as a driving teacher back in the day...but is he helping the ward? Is he helping the city remain classy? Is he promoting positive business (aka things other than liquor stores and taquerias?) What has Ald. Tenpas done for the ward lately?

Who has expressed interest in running? Anyone? Anyone?

If no one speaks up, it looks like I'll just have to run against him! I've got youth, and with youth comes energy, fresh ideas, new perspective and drive. I love the city of Waukegan...had the choice of any other town to live in, but decided to stay here. I know others who are just as passionate as I am...and have more experience who would probably make a better candidate than me. I'm in my 30's and actively involved in this town. I get to city council meetings and see how they're run. Frankly, I'm not happy at what I see! We are being forced to sell out and grab at straws...to me, this is unacceptable. This city has so much potential...we just need the right people to start tapping into it.

Feedback? Looking for an ideas exchange here...

Dear Grover, The City of Waukegan Government is not unlike our Federal Government, in that, they believe in misguided social engineering and development philosophies. Local taxpayers should never have been put on the hook for their "cart before the horse" development strategies. Virtually every development decision they have made over the last 20 years has done nothing but increased our indebtedness, without any real progress towards improvement( I'm being kind here.) What Waukegan needs is a City Council that understands the demographics of our community and in turn gets about the business of returning respectability and law and order to our once prosperous, blue collar community. I have had major disagreements, in the past, with the local politicos, and I have since moved on because, like you, I eventually realized none of these people want to listen to, or debate, issues that have plagued this community for decades. I'm in the phone book, call me, Harold Beadling

Do people still use phonebooks???
Are you kidding....just ask Link and Couvall!!
They had guys using them to come up with names for fraudulent petition signatures,
and it didn't matter if the person was still alive or not!
