Historic Neighborhood Burglaries
#1
Heads up everyone. A group of criminals is canvassing and burglarizing the areas in and around the Waukegan Historic District. Our home was burglarized a few weeks ago and then just last night two neighbors reported incidents. These people are coming into homes while people are sleeping and stealing easy to carry portable electronics, etc... Also, Officers and Detectives don't seem to be sharing any information about this with the public. Keep your doors locked even when you are home. This economy is driving people to crime.

While this board is not quite as jumpin’ as the .org forum and it’s been a while since I’ve been crazed enough to write in, things are reaching a point of no return. Now Waukegan 218 has a problem. The problem is crime. It’s not the economy driving these poor misguided wretches to victimize you; it’s the latest bunch of thugs who have landed in our fair city who have no regard for you or the law or anything else. You might have noticed the large exodus out of Waukegan by various Hispanic groups when the jobs dried up. Not all, but a lot. Now nature and your typical Waukegan landlord (they don’t actually live here themselves) abhor a vacuum (and empty apartments), so the section 8 machine grinds out vouchers and the finest from the CHA land in WaukyTown! Now as an aside, you all can thank whatever gods you believe in that the Olympics went to Rio. Could you imagine what would hit this town if Mayor Daly had to relocate all the people in an area from McCormick Place to the Museum of Science and Industry on the South and from the Lake to the Dan Ryan on the West? As it stands, I have to believe that the CHA was trying to get a jump on the process and started filling up our vacant rentals. Ah… money makes the world go round.
So what’s my point? The past months have been an absolute disaster in the crime category. There are near riots by rival gangs every day at the High School, There are shootings every day, the drunk, disorderly, criminal damage, domestic abuse calls are non-stop. Burglary is, and armed robbery is very nearly a daily occurrence. When you throw in the absolute joy of being up late quietly reading or listening to the radio, and you hear someone try to turn the knob on the screen door… Oh, yeah, it’s the economy knocking on my chamber door….
And we are laying off police! Are we stupid, or what?
We need boots on the ground right here in Waukegan, because we have our own urban terrorist invasion. Aggressive policing is the first and necessary step if we are ever going to get anyone to bring jobs or their disposable dollars (think the theater and all the restaurants that never open or go bust one after another) or reclaim our schools.
People are frightened of Waukegan, and at this point I cannot in good conscience tell my friends in the county that they have the wrong perception of our city.
Mr. Mayor, You will not survive the next election if you do not take bold action to stop the wave of barbarism that has swept over our community. Oh, and don’t look for much help from a useless city council who sit around year after year and are now surprised at the fact we’re broke, and the GOB machine will let you twist in the wind by blocking any action that might make you look good.
I propose every taxable property in Waukegan, be charged (yeah it’s a special tax) $100 to go to the Police for more troops. It’s that critical. There is no tomorrow, we are at the tipping point.
(And for God’s sake, get a chief of police who can keep his pants zipped and won’t get his butt whipped by an irate husband… Yeah, he’s a role model)
I like the irony of taxing slum lords to pay for the mess their tenants make.
As for Waukegan 218? Here’s some advice.
Buy a dog.
Buy a gun.
Learn how to use both to protect your family
And I mean really learn and make the mental decisions necessary. It’s tough, but consider your responsibility to your loved ones to protect them in an environment where the Police are being run ragged and help is aways away, and that cover car is probably on the other side of town. At this point the police are relegated to being historians, and you run the risk of being a statistic.
Oh, one more thing…
Go to Radio Shack. Buy a scanner. Tune to 470.315.
And be afraid, be very afraid.

Start questioning strangers parked on your street, walking around looking at houses, call cops on solicitors, get alarm systems, guns if you are prepared to be trained in proper usage, don't be afraid of being un-PC regarding strangers, a few well placed beatins' and butt kickins' might be a deterrent to those who are malingerin' with an intent towards mischief, call the police, the local media and alert your neighbors. Don't put up with it. Call and harangue Larry Tenpas. It is our city, don't let the mopes take it over and intimidate you.

Good morning all,
We had another break in on Sheridan Rd yesturday. It happened during the day. One person that is responsible has been spotted. He was seem running south on Sheridan pushing a neighbors garbage can at 3:15am Wednesday morning.
He was described as being between 18-21, hispanic, thin build and short curly hair.
I know this describes alot of the kids that live in and around the historic district but just keep an eye out. Also, if you live on the cliff, check out your property down there. He may have a friend and this is just a theory, but, they could be parking on the Amstets and walking up.
Good luck and stay safe. Keep windows and doors locked, post beware of dog signs, get a dog, get alarm systems, leave outside lights on at night. This jerk needs to be stopped

The guy who was seen pushing the garbage can might have been stealing aluminum cans from the recycle bins. They get out very early in the morning to do that. I've seen them doing it in my neighborhood. It's a violation of city ordinance to steal from recycling bins. I have twice called the police about this and both times the police let the person go and even let them take the stolen aluminum with them. I no longer bother to call the police for that.

Wow! I wonder what is wrong with people trying to solve an immediate problem in their community?
Good for the 6th Ward in Waukegan for taking an active stance to solve problems that they are concerned with! Bravo!

Well kids here is what is becoming a typical night in Waukegan.. At around 6 PM there was a gang fight and shots fired into a building on Georgetown and Berwick Now just about every cop in town was there. At 8:08pm an armed robbery occurred at Dominoes Pizza on Grand. At the exact same time an armed robbery occurred at Club 18. seems like the perps were all dressed in black hoodies, bandanas, and gloves. Here is the kicker. All the cops are running around trying to deal with what obviously a coordinated hit on two stores at the same time. Anyway… A strong arm robbery call just came in on GEORGETOWN!!!!
You go out at night at your own peril.
Sleep well… Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

Yeah, maybe I'm a little overly sensitive when I hear Northsiders make a big deal out of it when there is crime in their half of Waukegan all the while the Southside is left to rot. For years and years it has been like that. Certain areas of the Northside were protected and the Southside in general was left to rot. - United we didn't stand, divided we fell - might be the moral of the story.
Also notice that the invitation was for 6th ward residents exclusively. Shouldn't every resident of the city be invited to share concern for the well being of every part of the city?
