How the Hell do I get my kid into the school???

School Funding is based on first week attendance so this isn't only wrong it costs us a lot of money. SCHOOL BOARD ARE YOU LISTENING? This is why Chicago Public Schools works so hard to get kids into school the first week. How much are these delays costing us?

If you are then you are lucky because some people are scheduled to teach in the other building. :lol: I'm not making this up because it is to ridiculos to not be true. Many schools are closing registration for the week before school starts. Not sure why but I think it has to do with last minute out of area residents trying to slip in during the craziness of the start of school. Despite the fact that you are a returning family, unless you can prove with a cancelled registraion fee check or bank register showing the debit for said fees, you may be out of luck. Also, you may want to contact records and see where your student's records are being held. If you did register, they would have been moved to the school you registered to (high school, in your case). If they see you as a dropped student, they will probably be in the records dept at Lincoln Center. I am basing this on my experience hunting for my son's records a few years back when they got "Lost" between schools. Good Luck....but try to find some proof of your registration...cancelled checks, etc. It WILL help. They can't really argue if they took your money. Also, it will help as I am sure you are going to get hit with higher fees then you paid before due to the new student status and the late registration they say you have.

It was pointed out to me that their website states to call the school AFTER Aug. 11th for returning students that aren't registered. Even though I DID register her, I had a feeling there would be a fight on my hands... Back when I first thought there would be a problem, it was Aug. 13th. I called the HS, they transferred me to this woman (Ms. Moyer) who told me that's for new students. When I pointed out to her that it even states at the top of the webpage "RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION" She still argued with me that it was for new students!! Uggghhh

OK, need to update on the status of this....I've emailed Batiste and the whole school board....today I got a call from the Principal, Sonny Garza and Dr. Batiste himself. I would like to thank Sonny for all his effort and concern about this...also following up with everything...he's been great!! The Principal called me and sounded flustered, but told me that there must've been some kind of communication break-down between the High School and the Welcome Center, but that I can go to the WC and re-register her there, as there are over 100 students still not registered. Dr. Batiste called me and told me that after reading the email, he didn't want to call the H.S. but actually go there in person to see what was going on. He talked to me a bit, and told me that my daughter wasn't dropped, and that I can take her over to the Welcome Center....he would call them and let them know my daughter's name, and let them know to get her registered so she can make it the first day. I still don't know how this whole thing went wrong, but it's obvious that her records are at the H.S. as Dr. Batiste was able to get some info. from them. Anyhow...I want to publicly thank Mr. Garza and Dr. Batiste for their quick action on this. No word whatsoever from any other board member...just an FYI.

YEAAAAAAA MY DAUGHTER CAN GO TO SCHOOL THE FIRST DAY!! OK, we went to the Welcome Center, did our thing, then over to the High School to get her ID etc. She wasn't able to get that, as the district was in a meeting, but will get it tomorrow at school. I am just sooo thankful she's in and she can't wait to start either!! I want to thank Mr. Rodriguez, who not only emailed me, but did a lot of behind the scenes work to make this happen, along with a follow-up call today to make sure everything went well. Also thanks to Sonny and Dr. Batiste who both called me to let me know it will be taken care of. Kudos to these three for a job well done!
