Just got home from work and had a message from the school district that there is a confirmed case of Swine Flu. Oh boy. It's a teacher who travels between two schools which probably means they are art or music, etc. and see a lOT of kids. Here's what was at the district site. Keep an eye on your kids. Our kids came home with an orange info. packet as well.
ONE CASE OF H1N1 FLU IDENTIFIED IN WPSD #60

Waukegan, IL - We have been informed that there is a confirmed case of H1N1(Swine)Flu in an itinerant teacher who serves at Greenwood Elementary and Jefferson Middle School. The teacher will be recovering at home. The district will treat all respiratory illness by the guidelines recommended by the Lake County Health Department and the CDC. The guidelines are:
1. School closure is not advised for a suspected or confirmed case of novel influenza A (H1N1) and, in general, is not advised unless there is a magnitude of faculty or student absenteeism that interferes with the schoolâs ability to function.
2. Students, faculty or staff with influenza-like illness (fever with a cough or sore throat) should stay home and not attend school or go into the community except to seek medical care for at least 7 days even if symptoms resolve sooner.
3. Students, faculty and staff who are still sick 7 days after they become ill should continue to stay home from school until at least 24 hours after symptoms have resolved.
4. Students, faculty and staff who appear to have an influenza-like illness at arrival or become ill during the school day should be isolated promptly in a room separate from other students and staff and sent home.
5. Parents and guardians should monitor their school-aged children, and faculty and staff should self-monitor every morning for symptoms of influenza-like illness.
6. Ill students should not attend alternative child care when out of school but should remain at home until symptoms have been resolved.
7. Waukegan School District #60 will use our schools to provide for educational activities aimed at promoting ways to reduce the spread of influenza, including hand hygiene and cough etiquette.
Additional information will be sent home with students today.
