Imagine my surprise today when a co-worker congratulated me on my bid for a seat on the Waukegan School Board......she said she read it here....and she believed it! Thanks to you, nowinvolved, for your vote of confidence. Although I strive to exemplify the qualities that freedomisntfree has identified as crucial to continued school board reform, I will not be a candidate in the upcoming election. The obvious reason is that as a current District 60 employee I am not eligible to seek a school board seat. I remain steadfastly committed to continue my efforts through COSLA to ensure that the leadership of Waukegan Public Schools conducts it's business with professionalism, ethics and accountability. I am very interested to learn who the candidates will be and more importantly, what their platforms are.

Next, the new board will need to find the best and brightest with a special emphasis on ethics, character and competence to replace those who were dismissed or resigned. The entire board will need to set the standards for the new leadership and hold them to those standards in open session. If everything that the new board and new administration do is per policy, per state law, per federal law and of course the ethical thing to do, then secrecy will not be required. "

That's a big order. Why would anyone with those qualifications want to come to Waukegan? It's common knowledge that those characteristics are not rewarded at Waukegan. I know this sounds negative and not part of the solution but it is a big reason why Dist. 60 has the administrationers that they have. The pool of candidates is not very deep more like a puddle. The state maybe the only solution. How much worse could it be?
