Paid Ideological Astroturfing, October 2,2010
#1
You should take a long look at their sponsors. As you may have guessed, I am not a 'Workers Of The World Unite' kind of person. SEIU is offering all expenses paid and 1,000 dollars a week to travel to California for a Get Out The Vote(GOTV) in California. You have to hand it to them, they work very hard to maintain their interests, even if it means total fiscal and social meltdown in California. Hey, the Dems control our fiscal and social policy, the Fed will just bail them out too!

Paid ideological astroturfing... left wing protest in D.C. this Saturday

So the Democrats, unions, and lefty radicals are planning a protest in Washington, DC, on October 2 to counter conservative rallies that have taken place there the past year? Some are even calling it an anti-Beck protest.

Take a guess at how they plan to turn out people. If you said, "Pay them," you would be correct.

From this alone, their protest is already an ideological failure.

Take a guess at how the mainstream media will call it. If you said they will probably flash headlines that trumpet something similar to, "HUGE NUMBERS TURN OUT ... VICTORY FOR DEMOCRATIC AGENDA," even if only ten people show up, you would probably again be correct.

What a contrast. Conservatives' principles and love for God and country have made them stand up, speak out, and sacrifice to attend events in the nation's capital and elsewhere. Thousands of "tea party" rallies have taken place nationwide the past 18 months.

On September 12, 2009, fed up with eight months of the Democrats and President Barack Obama spending hand-over-fist and in the process of trying to jam through nationalized health care, six bus loads of Virginians from the Shenandoah Valley headed to Washington, DC. They were not angry but, rather, concerned about the future of the country for their children and grandchildren. It was the day America went to Washington.

Hard workers who had saved for retirement, they were shocked to see new federal policies and handouts hurriedly voted in by a Congress that had not read the fine print but smugly assured Americans they would learn the content of the bills after they were passed. Citizens were not amused and took their voices to DC.

Consisting of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Constitution, Ron Paulites, and other random freedomist activist groups, residents of all ages paid their own way for the chartered buses out of Staunton. They signed up by the dozens to take the three-hour ride to DC, walk a mile down Pennsylvania Avenue shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of thousands of other concerned citizens, participate in a rally outside the U.S. Capitol all day to show their dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership and Barack Obama, and return on the three-hour ride home.

I would know, because I was one of the bus organizers. We started with two buses and kept adding until we had six. With the waiting list, we could probably have filled at least ten. Everyone paid their own way. The cost was $35 a person which included a bottle of water. Most brought their lunch and additional water. Some carried chairs. Many had signs ... others had American and "Don't Tread On Me" flags.

They were Americans exercising their First Amendment rights to free speech and, for many, it was the first time they had ever been involved in the political process much less participated in a march on DC. On August 28, 2010, more than 500,000 Americans once again paid their own way to Washington to participate in the "Defending Freedom" rally hosted by Glenn Beck.

There's a difference in rallying for something you believe, and rallying because you are paid to be there.

Breitbart's Big Government has the flyer advertising the Democrat/radical demonstration on October 2, 2010, which says those who sign up will receive the following:

- FREE bus ride
- FREE box lunch
- FREE tee shirt
- FREE Metro card.

That's putting your principles where your mouth is. Not.

Big Government had more information about Saturday’s protest:

On October 2nd, the NAACP and national labor unions will give tens of thousands of people free bus rides, free lunches, free T-shirts and free Metro farecards as inducements to attend the One Nation Working Together rally being organized by a coalition of radical leftist organizations at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has promised to give free bus rides from major metropolitan areas within twelve hours of D.C. The United Steelworkers are also busing in demonstrators from across the Northeast. Even the Screen Actors Guild is ‘getting on the bus.’

Local NAACP chapters on the East coast are also offering free buses, as are the Communication Workers of America. Rally co-sponsor the AFL-CIO states, “Unions are sponsoring some 1,400 buses from around the country to come to the march.”

So let's see if I've got this straight. Those who believe in personal responsibility learn the date of an event and provided for themselves. The atmosphere at conservative rallies has been like that of a neighborhood gathering with no arrests and few problems.

Those who depend on government to take care of them eagerly reach for the handouts, taking advantage of the free transportation, food, and clothing. Check Left Coast Rebel's list of groups involved in this faux-protest. Astroturf?

After the 9/12 march on the Capitol and the 8/28 Glenn Beck rally at the Lincoln Memorial, the grounds were left clean by the crowd that had picked up trash behind themselves. After Saturday's rally, look to see how clean the area will be around the Lincoln Memorial.

Oh, wait. They will probably pay someone to do that, too.
