Greathouse will take over the 198-member department, including over 150 sworn police officers, after the retirement of Chief Artis Yancey. Greathouse takes over the reins of the department with an impressive list of past accomplishments in his 22½ years of law enforcement service with the Waukegan Police Department, involvement in numerous organizations and associations, and prior U.S. military service.
His varied experiences include educating the community in crime prevention, narcotics enforcement through covert and tactical operations, internal and external investigations, departmental budget oversight and personnel management. He possesses a bachelors degree in law enforcement administration with a minor in military science from Western Illinois University.
âDaniel Greathouse has been an outstanding member of the Waukegan Police Department for over two decades, and has served as Deputy Police Chief for the past five years,â Sabonjian said. âHe is extremely knowledgeable, has outstanding leadership abilities and is fully ready to accept the challenges of the position of chief of police.â
Greathouse officially takes charge of the department on Aug. 1.
âI want to thank Mayor Sabonjian for having the confidence in appointing me to the position of chief of police," Greathouse said. "It is a great honor and privilege to work with the mayor, aldermen, fine men and women of the Waukegan Police Department, and the cityâs business owners and residents in ensuring a secure and safe Waukegan.â
