WHY IS WAUKEGAN EXPANDING ITS AIRPORT?
#1
I cannot fathom how Waukegan citizens are quietly allowing our PRIVATELY LEASED airport to keep expanding so that the airport earns more revenue but Waukegan has to deal with LARGER AIRCRAFT landing and taking off over our city. Larger aircraft means more AIRPORT TRAFFIC. What is Waukegan's benefit? A: Nothing!

Suzy Link brags that she's best friends with the owners and I suspect that Senator Link's hand is buried somewhere deep in the pants of the authorizing port authority and the airport's private leaseholder. Waukegan has enough issues to deal with nowadays. Citizens speak up NOW against the airport's current and future expansion. Write to your newspapers, your Senators and Congressman and tell your local officials how you feel about increased air traffic above our homes and the accompanying pollution. Think of the health of our citizens (our KIDS) with noise pollution interrupting our sleep and the aircraft exhaust layering upon our town. As fun as it may be, one weekend a year for a token "air show" does not dilute 363 days of flights taking off and landing at all hours.

Who expands an airport in their own landlocked community? A: Suzy and Senator Link and their pals who lease the airport.

Suzy and Terry-- the benefit to private jet owners in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Highland Park, Libertyville is obvious. The donors to 'Link for Senator' are probably a LOT of those aircraft owners and their corporations. After all, Waukegan is an easy car commute.

What's Waukegan's benefit?

The current state of our economy will change; it is the nature of economic and business cycles. Both the public and private sector must be prepared as the economy climbs out of the current state we are in. Part of that preparation is having the ability to attract new business and industry to a community. One factor large corporations use when evaluating new locations is access to both public and private transportation, including air travel. Not a believer? talk to mayors of towns like Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, and others in the vicinity of Palwaukee Airport and ask how important that air field is to the overall growth and development of their respective communities.
Or, would you prefer our community do nothing and watch future growth pass us by, all the time wondering why Waukegan is stagnant?

wisdom says that you should have done the necessary campaign disclosure report investigation, first. The truth always trumps speculation. Why does Waukegan continue to put him over the top? I don't think I, or my neighbors, have realized any benefit from our state senator's benevolence with our precious tax dollars. Think about it, and then go out and do your research, so you can come back with some damning information.[Image: icon_twisted.gif]

JB1346--let those towns prosper. I'm not selling out peace and quiet at night and the health of our citizens-- and especially CHILDREN --for a few fat cats to fly closer to their homes in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Highland Park.

What corporations have said: "We can afford for our executives to fly privately so lets locate to the towns abutting Palwaukee?

A: None, unless they're aviation related.

Airport and Link supporters need to tell us a reason why we should be sitting by as our privately-leased airport expands and expands AND EXPANDS. Ask anybody who lives around an airport about quality of life? A: There is none.

I'm writing this because it's OUR future quality of life at stake here. The Links want to move to Florida anyway.

Greetings Sux,

If you are talking about the work that is going on now, it's not an expansion.
They are repaving runway 14-32. They resurfaced runway 5-23 year before last.

As far as benefit to the community the airport provides jobs. I would guess they
have more than 100 people working there full time and a lot of part time A&P (Airframe and Powerplant) mechanics doing annual inspections on aircraft.

Also a great majority of the pilots out there are not rich.

Don't make it sound like a privately leased airport is a bad thing. Private leasing brings in more money than a municipal run operation. Refer to recent news that Mayoy Daly is giving consideration to private leasing of Midway Airport. Given the current economic downturn and dimished revenues to municipalities, officials are forced to think of alternative means and methods of brining in more money without a substantial increase in costs. The burden for maintenance, insurance, FAA compliance, etc. all falls on the lease holder. The municipality simply collects money based on the terms of the lease.
Most residents know exactly what is around them when they move into a neighborhood, regardless of what nuisance may be nearby. I have little sympathy for the person that knowingly moves in adjacent to an airport, railroad, busy road, etc., and then complains about it later.

The Waukegan Airport is not a privately leased airport. It's run by the Waukegan Port District.

Airshow this year September 19, lots of fun.

JB1346-- I feel when I read your posts that somebody just turned on an Eisenhower-era infomercial. I'm not sure if the runways are being engineered to handle larger aircraft or are being enlarged. I heard that they were being "expanded". The point being is that I don't care about this revenue source and that there are 100 local jobs there. They say that there are local jobs at the lakefront until those workers show up at city hall and they all live in Wisconsin or Libertyville or Lake Bluff.

What I care about is our quality of life in Waukegan. We don't need our airport to expand, we don't need Suzy and Senator Link's friends to benefit at our expense. This isn't about the local guy in his Cessna. This is about the corporate and fat-cat jets that are increasingly landing here and runway reengineering that will allow more jet traffic to fly in and out of Waukegan.

We don't need more aircraft landing and taking off over our heads and homes at all hours of the night. We don't need more aviation noise disrupting sleep/home/school and aircraft exhaust settling down into our kids lungs.

We just need the airport to be what it was when it was granted authority to operate: a small local concern. NOT a friend-of-the Links DuPage County Airport white elephant.

The Links no longer care about the regular guys that Terry claims to be.

Lets see how many Link for Senate signs will appear the next election cycle. His last run looked to be of an old worn horse.

If you support a system which places money at the highest level of that society then why should you be shocked, surprised or even concerned when something turns out to be all about the money?
