CREW on Libby tomorrow
#11
As long as Steve Kolber is part of the CREW I will have nothing to do with them. Kolber is a hypocrite. Everything was fine and dandy when he was getting his share of the booty. Where was his voice of protest when the Genesee project was wasting taxpayer money hand over fist? Where was he when incompetence, waste, deceit, favoritism and corruption was SOP in his daily existence? And I haven't mentioned all the crap that he did to me on a personal level.

Danno:

I understand that you are frustrated, but Steve Kolber represents just one person in a growing community of concerned citizens. Whom CREW decide to back is not Steve's responsibility: it is a group decision, made by a very diverse bunch of individuals who have their own opinions and thought processes.

Kirsti, I would hazard to guess that you pour the milk in your cup first.

No Kirsty, not frustrated. It's much more simple than that. I don't like Steve Kolber and I don't like being in the same room as him.

By the way, I'm curious, is CREW going to take a vote on who to back for mayor? If not, can you please explain the plan for the decision making process.

Danno: it has yet to be formalized, but it will involve a combination of processes, including review of candidate interviews, deliberation and discussion by CREW members etc

So let me get this straight. Te rules are made up as you go along. The meetings are secret affairs. And we are supposed to trust you and follow your word like it is Gospel.

Where have I seen this before :?:

Oh I remember - CITY HALL :!:

Here's how it works...

A group of liberal newcomers to the community are not sure that their decision to live in Waukegan was the best choice. They decide to form an organization to influence the next mayoral election, but it cannot be open to the hoi polloi whose judgement is questionable as they are not as intelligent as the CREW cronies. CREW, therefore, will decide amongst their little membership what candidate is deserving of their support and try to influence the hoi polloi with their supperior intelligence and judgement.

The CREW attitude that they are the first to ever try to change Waukegan is, not only disrepectful, but pathetic.

I think this may be called elitist.

Jasmin, you are welcome to join at any time. We encourage you, once again to do so. There is no secret blood oath, funny handshake, anthem, hazing, initiation rite or sacrifice to go through, nor is there an Official Secrets Act to sign, nor do you minimally have to possess a Ph.D. in astrophysics. You just attend the meetings and participate. The rules are not being made up as we go along, quite the contrary. But given that the candidates for the mayoral election have still to be formalized, the situation as a whole remains fluid. It will be for members to decide how we proceed from here, as they are the ones who have committed their time and energy to pick the right candidate. The process will, as I mentioned before, undoubtedly include deliberation and a review of the candidate interviews. Unlike City Hall, CREW are not elected officials nor on City Hall payroll. We are just a group of citizens, young and old, some who are new to this town, others who are long-established residents, who want to take part in the democratic process.

I'm not sure what constitutes being new in this town, or what constitutes liberal or elitist. We are a diverse group: liberal, conservative, independent, black, white, hispanic, American, European, young, old, short, tall, fat, thin, cleaners, teachers, retirees, designers, students, entrepreneurs, managers, CEO's, homemakers, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Agnostic.....some, like myself, have lived in Waukegan for nine months, others for over 50 years (the stats are on the CREW site, but do come to a meeting to see for yourself) The thing that we have in common is our desire to be informed about the mayoral candidates, and to get behind the candidate that we collectively believe is the best to move this city forward.

The misconception that CREW claims to be the first to change Waukegan is simply ridiculous. TOWN came well before us, and made good progress, particularly with the school board. Before TOWN, there were undoubtedly others. Other committees currently exist in Waukegan for the improvement of the city. CREW is not the first, and will not be the last. I am slightly baffled as to why there is an objection to forming a group of like-minded citizens, a group that is open to all, who volunteer their time to participate in the election process. Democracy cannot function properly unless there is an informed electorate, and free and fair elections.

Like those who came before us, and those who come after, we are just trying to do our bit...
