Stunning news from a North Tempe Tea Party town hall with Senator Jon Kyl: Why did the Arizona senator tell the crowd that President Obama and the White House refuse to secure the southern border?
Arizona Republican Senator Jon Kyl told the assembled audience at a North Tempe Tea Party town hall meeting that during a private, one-on-one meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office, the President told him he won't secure the border. Why? In order to get Republicans on board with comprehensive immigration reform.
Kyl explains: "Here's what the president said: 'The problem is,' he said, 'if we secure the border than you all won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.' In other words, they're holding it hostage. They don't want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform. I explained, 'You and I, Mr. President, have an obligation to secure the border. That's an obligation. It also has potentially positive benefits. You don't have to have comprehensive reform to secure the border, but you have to secure the border to get comprehensive reform."
