Twenty-four entries in nine categories were selected out of some 101 candidates for honors in last weekend's annual American Independence Parade sponsored by the Waukegan Park District.
Taking top honors for Best Overall Entry was Cub Scout Pack 16 from St. Anastasia Church.
In the Bike Decorating Contest, the Grand Prize winner was Pawandeep Kaur, while winners in other categories included Julia Ward (Color), Anjelena Aquila (Theme) and Paulina Moran (Originality).
Miscellaneous categories with the top three finishers listed in order include:
Best Band: Navy Band Great Lakes; West Allis/West Milwaukee Lancer Band; Waukegan Municipal Band.
Best Dramatic/Humorous Entry: Jesse White Tumbling Team; CircEsteem & Chicago Youth Circus; Tebala Motor Patrol.
Best Theme Presentation: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of Waukegan; the Puerto Rican Society; Cub Scout Pack 16.
Best Drill Team: National Champion Jazz Steppers Drill Team; South Shore Drill Team; New Generation Fancy Drill Team.
Best Walking Entry: Waukegan Public Library; Waukegan Community Church -- Men of Integrity; North Shore Trust & Savings.
Best Vehicle Entry: Waukegan Tire and Supply Inc.; Waukegan Fire Department; Puerto Rican Society.
Best Decorated Float: Knights of Columbus; Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church; Vista Health System.
