School Board Candidates Forum 4/2/09
#21
Evidently,
MOST of the Waukegan residents are satisfied with the LOW test results at our Waukegan schools (2nd only to North Chicago) ....

MOST of the Waukegan residents are PROUD of our 66.8% High School GRADUATION RATE we achieved in 2007-08 ....

MOST of the Waukegan residents are EXCITED about our TRUANCY rate (the HIGHEST in Illinois) ....

This is VERY SAD ....

As one of the School Board candidates said at the COSLA Candidates Forum, "As the schools go, so goes the CITY"

GOOD LUCK, WAUKEGAN !

Look forward to MORE of the SAME!

We can educate them now, and give them the best possible chance at a prosperous future, or we can doom them to a life of subsistence wages and missed opportunities. In addition, since ours is an economically disadvantaged district, most of the revenue comes from state and federal tax dollars. Unless you leave the country, you'll be paying for these schools. Wink
So very true Kelly. Too bad many don't see it that way. We were planning on moving out this year, but my daughter LOVES WHS and really wants to graduate from there, so it looks like we're sticking it out. You wouldn't believe how many people make comments to me about that. WHS is a good school, with good people, it just needs to be run better. Wink

Everybody on this forum had enough information to clean house at Waukegan Public Schools - if the information provided by me on this board had been pursued by just a handful of citizens. I presented a wealth of information about their wrongdoing over the previous year. The citizens of Waukegan did not seem to be interested in cleaning house or holding the board, board attorney or administration accountable.

The only reason any of them are still here is the citizens of Waukegan choose not to do anything about it. You can change this situation anytime you like. You've heard the cold hard truth about their lies from the mouths of Batiste and Hawn and you let it slide. Again all you need to do is decide to investigate and follow through. If you are really unhappy and want to do something about it, you already have the means to remove the entire board, board attorney, Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Executive Director of HR, Executive Director of Technology, Director of Business Services and a few others as well. The election hasn't changed your ability to hold them accountable.

If the citizens of Waukegan want to clean house and start over with competent ethical moral lawful experienced educators then it is within your reach to do so. Or you can do nothing. It's your school, your children, your tax dollars and your decision to let them stay or show them the door.

The public has spoken........they're either pleased with the current board or just don't care.........either way the result is the same and the news is not good.
I think this one's over folks.

Curious, I disagree that it's over with. I can understand why you would feel that way. I just disagree that the citizens of the district are powerless to change the current situation. And this can be changed easily, very easily. All it takes, all it ever takes - is a handful of citizens that want to hold them accountable. They are spending your money on attorneys to hide their actions against you from you. Shouldn't you defend yourselves and stop them from spending your tax dollars on legal fees and increased liability?

Seriously? It IS overSad
(at least for the next 2 years)
The REAL winners in Tuesday's election were those whose names were not on the ballot, but appear on the Waukegan Public School's letterhead: the overpaid, non-resident administrator's who can now rest assured that the path has been cleared for their agenda for the next 2 years as the voters chose to reseat incumbants that have a measurable pattern of rubber stamping. Despite the efforts of the COSLA group, Lake County United and a few others who tried their best to educate the voting public as to the views and track records of both the incumbants and the challengers......the status quo was the victor....and the bobble head dolls remain in their seats. Not only do the majority of those who voted own this decision, it also belongs to the silent majority who didn't even bother to participate in the process and the media who largely ingored this election apparently because lack of ethics, accountability, fiscal responsibility, etc. don't make headlines or get airtime.

WOW! What an excellent statement! I agree with everything you said, except it's over. I do agree that the election is over. Holding them accountable for their actions is just getting started, if I have to continue it all by myself.

Your statement really captured the situation.

With all due respect freedom,
I sincerely don't wish to be harsh, however, in past months, you have posted long and loud about issues that you believe to be not only unjust, but illegal and for all practical purposes you have not been able to get results from Madigan's or Waller's office(s) or had success in any court of law which would vindicate you and your wife (as well as nail the administrators and board members that you have identified). So what makes you say that things can change ??

Curious - that's a great question. I believe it has already changed. Your statement regarding results is not quite correct. The first part of my complaint to their office has been very succesful. The second is in process and I expect that it will also be very succesful. I'll will share that as soon as I get it back hopefully in a week or two.

Ohbrother - Your post ignores Batiste's full confession and his efforts to go backwards afterwards. Maybe you missed it in other posts. You can hear him admit that he confessed and blame the "going backwards" on the board. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkkXGtdnXLY

Isn't a confession from Batiste enough?
