How to lose an election
#1
1. Do not show up to your commitments.
2. If able to show up, do so very late.
3. Lie to the citizens regarding any number of things, either personal or professional.
4. Insult large blocks of decent hard working people who are different from you.
5. Latch on to the success of the high school basketball team.
6. Send out mailings with old, outdated quotes and pictures of stores that do not exist.
7. Send out mean, hateful, anonymous mailing.
8. Repeatedly steal signs placed in front of your favorite watering hole.
9. Have your people act as if this is business as usual.
10. Take the trust of citizens for granted.

Unfortunately those tactics often work due to voter apathy. Luckily they didn't work this time.

But still the turnout was disappointing, considering the size of Waukegan.

I think that voters thought that this was the way it was and Hyde would never be ousted. Tahnk goodness there were still enough people who didn't think that way and cast their ballots.

I was suprised at such a low voter turnout yesterday. Out of 90K people living here (not all voters of course) only 7,500 actually voted. How sad is this?
