287g Dead?????
#1
At the recent Guzman rally that was held at the high school Mayoy Hyde said that 287g was "dead". Just what did he mean by that statement. I took it to mean that ICE had somehow discontinued the program. However, as I read up on it 287g is stronger than ever. The amount of money budgeted for the program has increased in dramatic fashion from 15 million dollars in 2007 to over 42 million dollars in 2008 and as recent as October the city of Las Vegas has singed up. I'm pretty sure that they applied AFTER Waukegan did. Is HYDE LYING TO US about 287 g being dead? Did the city back out of 287g?

Now this realy ticks me off!
Hyde wants the Hispanic vote so he's pulled 287g off the table.
Even though the council approved the application and Hyde made a big deal about voting FOR it even thogh he doesn't have a vote on the council.
If he was really for it, he would be pushing to get the officers trained and not making statements that it's dead.
I just made up my mind to skip the primary and vote for Sabonjian in April.
At the very least, Sabonjian doesn't make empty promises or tell lies. Something that Hyde-ing has never learned not to do.

My gut reaction was he just wanted to tell the Guzmania audience, I mean the Waukegan Leadership Council's Guzman rally, I mean the WLC's non-partisan mayoral debate crowd what they wanted to hear.

I have read everything you have and more. Counties seem to be getting first priority with 287g. Based on how many foreign nationals are in our jails and how much of the jail population are in for gang related crimes -we need this. I hear Lake County is still on course.

I look forward to seeing how the primary works out. I already voted.

I'll post the recent statement later supporting what danno said.

I have a feeling that 287g is "dead" only here in Waukegan because certain city officials (and a certain non elected "official" by the name of Sneaky Pete) fear Federal Ice officials might uncover corruption. I'm absolutely convinced that corruption and fraud exists here even to the point of mob influence and control.
