Yep.
Hyde seems to always be a day late and a dollar short.
Lot's of promises and plans but not much that comes to fruition.
They JUST approved a $9,000.00 study to bring a baseball staium to Waukegan. Meanwhile, Zion has one confirmed.
Lot's of failures on the part of the Hyde Administration to get anything moving forward.
The only thing he's done is increase revenue for traffic tickets so he can pay for the Genessee Theatre. Which everyone now realizes is an abolute boon doggle.
I was downtown earlier today and saw where there's a restaurant that's going to opne in the Summmer of '08 across form the Theatre.
Wasn't there supposed to be some condos on Sheirdan and Washington in 2008 too?
And then there is the money he wasted on land for a non existent casino that we foot the bill for.
This guy is going to put Wauekgan in the poor house.
I'm just about tired of hearing promises from Hyde.
The problem is that of the candidates in the Primary,Cunningham would be just as bad or worse than Hyde and Guzman would be worst of all.
Think I'll wait until April and choose between Sabonjian, Washington and Flescher.

yet another missed opportunity!!!!!
no baseball, no harbor clean up, no casino, no new restaurants, no new condos.!!!!
I urge everyone to research the candidates. this is a VERY important election.

Indeed, let's move Waukegan from being the "city with a lot of potential" to the "city of new beginnings."

I wish I could move these comments to the "Zion" topic as it sits empty.

interesting comments from the editor in todays news sun...

"...Officials have steadily made strives in bringing new business opportunities and development to Zion. City officials formulated a plan and have stuck with it.
Waukegan's hopes for a minor league franchise have been shattered. Waukegan officials...are a day late and many dollars short. When it comes to fields of dreams, the possibilities are endless..."

please take the time to read the entire article, then on election day go to the polls and vote the BUMS in Waukegan out of office.

Many vacant store fronts on Genesee street probably are the culprit. Waukegan has made a few strides with revitalizing downtown. Credit where credit is due. I watched movies, in my youth, at the Genesee theater; it is very beautiful now. I know how remodling costs extend budgets. I live that everyday.
I question the empty store fronts, the empty restaurants in the heart of downtown. I wonder and question the effort of the people in charge of luring business into Waukegan? They should be fired if there is such a position, forgive my ignorance.
I'm told there is a lot of humble pie going around the city I was born and raised in. Who do we point this collective finger?
I do not live in Waukegan proper, but do pay taxes to the schools and parks. The redeeming part of this whole city is what the parks have and are providing. It is hard to lure people into this hometown of mine, when one of the best baseball communities in the past can't land a team?

i can not say it enough, "vote the BUMS in waukegan out of office", this town could be so much more. these 'good for nothings' cash their checks and that's all. they have had years to make something happen.

this weekend mark kirk will be speaking at the library and mayoral debates will be taking place. crew has spoken with the candidates, and many other fine organizations are working to get information out. do your research, go to the polls and get rid of the elected officials that are not working for this town.

enough is enough

I wonder if they actually examined the property they say the field is going to be built

My understanding is that it will be near the corner of Greenbay and 9th St.…The residents around there have complained for years about the smell from the landfill.

A warm summer's day...with the odor of rotting garbage wafting over the right field bleachers.

As for the empty storefronts...I've pontificated quite a bit about these and how the city has botched the downdown 'revival' , on the old TOWN forums. (A little too much for some 'sensitive' readers.)

The smell almost always is to the south and east of the Dump, very rarely if ever to the west. If so you can bet that situation will be cared for now. Zion, Winthrop Harbor and the County will now all have a reason to force the dump to fix the problem and stop giving lip service, as it wont just effect the taxpayers in the surrounding homes.
