Believe it or not the prevalence of people getting shot and people shooting in Chicago or any other city for that matter has little to do with guns. The propensity for firearm related violence and other types of violence are mainly due to the widespread glorification and acceptance of violence in general in this country. Firearms just happen to be a convenient way to be violent. We are at the mercy of those who think like ClassicalLib17, who fail to see this truth.
The only thing greater than the prevalence of people getting shot is the prevalence of stupidity.
The fact that our society glorifies violence, and then when violence does occur, the people are shocked or surprised that it has indeed occurred is absolute proof of an insane society. Yes, I know. It's hard to accept that our society is insane. Do you like it that way?
A good analogy is the ants and sugar one. If i spill some sugar on my kitchen floor is it an effective solution to kill the ants and then wait until more come and kill them and so on and so on... or is it more effective to clean up the sugar?
We have a society that creates violent people. We need to take the steps that are necessary to stop doing that.
