Northern Ill. Patriots Meeting April 1
#20
I am a member of the Tea Party and have been to the last 4 meetings. The group exists to oppose the growth of government. Government does not inherently have any money and any growth is done at the private sectors expense. The meetings generally have local politicians and candidates discussing the difficult problems facing our state ($45Billion in unfunded liabilities) and our country($100 Trillion in unfunded liabilities).

I have been anxious about this for over a decade, and this has been the first popular movement that has runaway deficits as its primary concern. I am still pessimistic that the American experiment is nearing the end but at least I will have stated my piece. The members of this group tend to be christian conservative. I am more of a minarchist and would agree that the government has no business legislating morality, nor should the government fund groups of any religious sort. In fact the Federal government should have little to no effect on your life.

I am still puzzled about the charges of racism and violence, I believe the majority of Americans, regardless of race or religion, actually subscribe to the beliefs of the Tea Party but there has been a misinformation campaign surrounding them. There even exists a website suggesting people infiltrate rallies and perform unpleasant activities to discredit the movement.

To those equating this with the KKK, these meetings are open to all comers, I can assure you there is no danger of violence. If after attending, you still do not like it, you can at least talk with personal knowledge rather than some skewed information you read somewhere.

The more you are forced to give to the government, the less free you are.
