In terms of Britain, I saw a televised news report in the recent past where some Members of Parliament were proposing that health care
in England be based upon an expensive fee-for-service model as done here in the USA. They were seeking to make the National Health Service
(NHS) there provide fewer services covered by the government, and more services to be paid for out-of-pocket by citizens.
The protests were enormous !! Thousands and thousands poured out into the streets to protest this proposal carrying signs such as
"WE DON'T WANT a USA HEALTH CARE SYSTEM HERE!!"
We so often hear from those opponent's of REAL health care reform here in the USA how much citizens hate their nationalized health care systems, such as in England. This is totally false.
Poll after poll in such countries prove time and time again that the overwhelming majority of citizens in such countries SUPPORT their nation's health care systems, and DON'T want anything like the broken, unaffordable and discriminating health care system we have here in the USA.
AND this is a fact, too: ALL the other world's MAJOR DEMOCRACIES have some form of national health care coverage for their citizens. England, France,
Germany, The Netherlands, Japan, Spain, Canada...even smaller countries like Switzerland do.
Further, citizens in these countries cannot understand why the USA is so far behind providing health care to all our citizens, and look to the USA as a backward, fifth world nation when it comes to this health care issue.
