Well....Terry Link did not win as Lt. Governor, so that is that.
Now you are so right about Scott Lee Cohen. What a total disaster is he.
IF Cohen remains on the ballot, he will shipwreck not only Quinn in November,
but Alexi Giannoulias for U S Senator vs Mark Kirk...and it will be a total embarassment for not
only the people of Illinois but for the President of the United States as well...
and the Democratic National Committee.
Cohen I think will throw the towel in .. the pressure will be enormous from all kinds
of heavy players, including U S Senator Durbin and even The White House.
The State Central Committee may then meet to appoint a replacement, which should
go to Art Turner, who won second place in the Dem Primary for Lt Governor.
Quinn said that the people should have the opportunity to select a Lt. Governor, however..
so who knows, a special election could be held.
Also, another angle would be for the General Assembly to vote and abolish the Office
of Lt Governor prior to the November 2010 General Election.
All kinds of possible scenarios; a special election would be quite costly, abolishing
the Office of Lt Governor would be seen as too arbitrary and capricious.
So I suspect the mostly likely solution will be to force Cohen OUT and then the State Central Commitee
select Art Turner to be the Dem Candidate for Lt Governor (since again he came in number
two in the Dem Primary).
Time well tell....never a dull moment in Illinois politics, lol ... the best show in town !
