Anyone out there still wondering why our children can't read at grade level by the time they enter high school? Their own unique self perception? Dear Mr. Russell, While our educational establishment has busied itself with multicultural mandates and self esteem learning for our K-8 children they apparently forgot the importance of reading, writing and arithmetic. Maybe that is the reason nearly 75% of our high schoolers fail the Illinois Prairie State High School Exam! Yes, our education system is broken, but teaching the three r's is not the reason our children can't adequately read and comprehend( see above for your answer). Our public schools have been slowly converted to your way of thinking over the last 100 years, and if you are a younger man, it's no wonder you think the way you do. Your opinions are proof of the disaster we have allowed to permeate throughout our K-8 Public Education System. Do you ever wonder why our kids don't respect us or their country? This disease has now spread throughout our entire Public Education System, yes, even college. Now do you understand why so many parents don't want to send their children to public schools, and want their tax dollars back in the form of a voucher so they can afford to send their kids to private schools?
