"Heads up everyone. A group of criminals is canvassing and burglarizing the areas in and around the Waukegan Historic District. Our home was burglarized a few weeks ago and then just last night two neighbors reported incidents. These people are coming into homes while people are sleeping and stealing easy to carry portable electronics, etc... Also, Officers and Detectives don't seem to be sharing any information about this with the public. Keep your doors locked even when you are home. This economy is driving people to crime."
While this board is not quite as jumpinâ as the .org forum and itâs been a while since Iâve been crazed enough to write in, things are reaching a point of no return. Now Waukegan 218 has a problem. The problem is crime. Itâs not the economy driving these poor misguided wretches to victimize you; itâs the latest bunch of thugs who have landed in our fair city who have no regard for you or the law or anything else. You might have noticed the large exodus out of Waukegan by various Hispanic groups when the jobs dried up. Not all, but a lot. Now nature and your typical Waukegan landlord (they donât actually live here themselves) abhor a vacuum (and empty apartments), so the section 8 machine grinds out vouchers and the finest from the CHA land in WaukyTown! Now as an aside, you all can thank whatever gods you believe in that the Olympics went to Rio. Could you imagine what would hit this town if Mayor Daly had to relocate all the people in an area from McCormick Place to the Museum of Science and Industry on the South and from the Lake to the Dan Ryan on the West? As it stands, I have to believe that the CHA was trying to get a jump on the process and started filling up our vacant rentals. Ah⦠money makes the world go round.
So whatâs my point? The past months have been an absolute disaster in the crime category. There are near riots by rival gangs every day at the High School, There are shootings every day, the drunk, disorderly, criminal damage, domestic abuse calls are non-stop. Burglary is, and armed robbery is very nearly a daily occurrence. When you throw in the absolute joy of being up late quietly reading or listening to the radio, and you hear someone try to turn the knob on the screen door⦠Oh, yeah, itâs the economy knocking on my chamber doorâ¦.
And we are laying off police! Are we stupid, or what?
We need boots on the ground right here in Waukegan, because we have our own urban terrorist invasion. Aggressive policing is the first and necessary step if we are ever going to get anyone to bring jobs or their disposable dollars (think the theater and all the restaurants that never open or go bust one after another) or reclaim our schools.
People are frightened of Waukegan, and at this point I cannot in good conscience tell my friends in the county that they have the wrong perception of our city.
Mr. Mayor, You will not survive the next election if you do not take bold action to stop the wave of barbarism that has swept over our community. Oh, and donât look for much help from a useless city council who sit around year after year and are now surprised at the fact weâre broke, and the GOB machine will let you twist in the wind by blocking any action that might make you look good.
I propose every taxable property in Waukegan, be charged (yeah itâs a special tax) $100 to go to the Police for more troops. Itâs that critical. There is no tomorrow, we are at the tipping point.
(And for Godâs sake, get a chief of police who can keep his pants zipped and wonât get his butt whipped by an irate husband⦠Yeah, heâs a role model)
I like the irony of taxing slum lords to pay for the mess their tenants make.
As for Waukegan 218? Hereâs some advice.
Buy a dog.
Buy a gun.
Learn how to use both to protect your family
And I mean really learn and make the mental decisions necessary. Itâs tough, but consider your responsibility to your loved ones to protect them in an environment where the Police are being run ragged and help is aways away, and that cover car is probably on the other side of town. At this point the police are relegated to being historians, and you run the risk of being a statistic.
Oh, one more thingâ¦
Go to Radio Shack. Buy a scanner. Tune to 470.315.
And be afraid, be very afraid.
