It will be important to bring public pressure to bear on this. We have an athletic director who believes that "country club sports" are not worth investing time or money in for Waukegan High School students, which he stated in a public meeting. Tell that to the next Tiger Woods who's busy in history class. Tell that to the next Arthur Ashe who's putting his books away in his locker at this moment. Tell that to the next Mark Spitz who's flirting with a girl in the cafeteria right now. Tell that to the next Venus and Serena Williams who are taking notes during a history class presentation right now...... You get the picture. Our kids need these sports as much as football or basketball. And right now, the pool is there only being used by the girls' swim team. As of last year, there were 8 girls on the team. There are already more than 20 boys who have expressed interest in a swim team. The pool itself is the biggest expense and it's already in place and under-used.
Who knows the status of the decision so far? These boys could be bonding as a team and training for next year. I hope the board understands how important this is.
