Two Waukegan robberies result in arrests
#2
Update on the bakery robbery. Why did Newbill ask for pen and paper, write what he did, etc... Was the place crowded or??? Do you get less time if you don't 'say' you are committing a robbery?

Waukegan bakery owner says he shot man because he feared for his life
Man in hospital charged with aggravated robbery

Tribune staff report
July 9, 2009

The Mexican bakery is a community store where Armando Trejo Jr. knows or recognizes most of his customers -- and that includes the man he shot in the chest during a robbery.

Police said Demitrius Newbill, 29, came into the Waukegan bakery Monday evening asking Trejo for a pen and paper, and handed him a note that read: "Give me the money I have a gun."

Trejo took money out of the register and handed it to Newbill. Trejo said he shot Newbill when he moved what he thought was a gun under his shirt.

Newbill was charged Tuesday with aggravated robbery.
