Eight suspects are charged in connection with 18 residential burglaries in Waukegan from late February through the end of June, Police Chief Artis Yancey announced Thursday.
An investigation triggered by a home burglary in the 2500 block of Walnut Street about 1 p.m. June 30 led to the arrests. Cops said they found two adults and a juvenile responsible for the Walnut Street job, then conducted a follow-up investigation that led to all who were responsible for the 18 burglaries that began Feb. 25 in the 2600 block of North Butrick Street.
Televisions, alcohol, video games and jewelry were part of the haul from the burglaries.
Yancey said many of the stolen items were recovered and will be returned to the proper owners if they provide positive identification.
All of the suspects are from Waukegan, police said. They are: Kevin Mejia, 17, charged with four counts of residential burglary; Jesus Briseno, 17, charged with 11 counts of residential burglary; Krystal Sifuentes, 18, charged with three counts of possession of stolen property; Sergio Sifuentes, 24, charged with four counts of possession of stolen property; Eric Estrada, 17, charged with 13 counts of residential burglary; Gerardo Alvarez, 17, charged with 13 counts of residential burglary; a 16-year-old juvenile, charged with 10 counts of residential burglary; and another 16-year-old charged with four counts of residential burglary.
