I'm wondering too. Will similar stances also carry over to housing code enforcement?
Do we really want the housing in this city to become an overcrowded mishmash of trashy run-down favelas?
If the mayor takes action in a detrimental fashion, I suppose it will be a matter of bringing it before the aldermen or perhaps demanding for some types of enforcement at the county level.
As for the traffic laws, those laws were put into place because of too many hit and run incidents and people without licences double parking or whatever. It's all fun and games until your car gets hit by someone without any insurance or registration or until an unlicenced driver parks his rusty hoopdy in front of your drive or in the middle of your street blocking you from going anywhere. It's bad enough they don't bother with the existing alternate parking ordinance and the narrow streets are bottlenecked, now imagine some unlicensed clown double parking in those areas.
