The City of Waukegan and the Waukegan Public Schools as with the Township and the Park District are all city governmental bodies that must support each other in many ways. I myself, a lifelong Waukegan resident have watched the school district take a major slide the last few years to the point where people simply do not want to come to Waukegan because of the schools...and if they do send their children to private schools if they can afford to. I applaude Mayor Hyde for doing what he thought was right in supporting this young group of men that has done our city proud in their quest to the state championships! I am by the same token appauled that the other candiates and the forum board did not find it appropriate to postpone their activities...(which could have easily been rescheduled) to go and do the same...support members of our community that have done good for the first time in 30 years! I am a graduate of WHS in the 1970's and found it rejuvinating to sport a Bulldog t-shirt for week. I made a special trip to the high school to purchase one. I wore it to work and around town to show support even though I did not have children there I am still a graduate! I would hope that no matter what branch of government you people support that you could come together and support the youth of our community and pat them on the back for a job well done! Set politics aside for 2 hours and honor these kids they deserve it...and having the Mayor present at the festivities shows the city's support. Grow up people and get off your political high horses and think about the positive things going on around you and celebrate!
