Many vacant store fronts on Genesee street probably are the culprit. Waukegan has made a few strides with revitalizing downtown. Credit where credit is due. I watched movies, in my youth, at the Genesee theater; it is very beautiful now. I know how remodling costs extend budgets. I live that everyday.
I question the empty store fronts, the empty restaurants in the heart of downtown. I wonder and question the effort of the people in charge of luring business into Waukegan? They should be fired if there is such a position, forgive my ignorance.
I'm told there is a lot of humble pie going around the city I was born and raised in. Who do we point this collective finger?
I do not live in Waukegan proper, but do pay taxes to the schools and parks. The redeeming part of this whole city is what the parks have and are providing. It is hard to lure people into this hometown of mine, when one of the best baseball communities in the past can't land a team?
