CREW on Libby tomorrow
#20
TypesWithFist Wrote:Here's how it works...

A group of liberal newcomers to the community are not sure that their decision to live in Waukegan was the best choice. They decide to form an organization to influence the next mayoral election, but it cannot be open to the hoi polloi whose judgement is questionable as they are not as intelligent as the CREW cronies. CREW, therefore, will decide amongst their little membership what candidate is deserving of their support and try to influence the hoi polloi with their supperior intelligence and judgement.

The CREW attitude that they are the first to ever try to change Waukegan is, not only disrepectful, but pathetic.

I think this may be called elitist.

I'm not sure what constitutes being new in this town, or what constitutes liberal or elitist. We are a diverse group: liberal, conservative, independent, black, white, hispanic, American, European, young, old, short, tall, fat, thin, cleaners, teachers, retirees, designers, students, entrepreneurs, managers, CEO's, homemakers, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Agnostic.....some, like myself, have lived in Waukegan for nine months, others for over 50 years (the stats are on the CREW site, but do come to a meeting to see for yourself) The thing that we have in common is our desire to be informed about the mayoral candidates, and to get behind the candidate that we collectively believe is the best to move this city forward.

The misconception that CREW claims to be the first to change Waukegan is simply ridiculous. TOWN came well before us, and made good progress, particularly with the school board. Before TOWN, there were undoubtedly others. Other committees currently exist in Waukegan for the improvement of the city. CREW is not the first, and will not be the last. I am slightly baffled as to why there is an objection to forming a group of like-minded citizens, a group that is open to all, who volunteer their time to participate in the election process. Democracy cannot function properly unless there is an informed electorate, and free and fair elections.

Like those who came before us, and those who come after, we are just trying to do our bit...
