Man shot in car on Waukegan street
#11
Dear WT Reader, The vast majority of American citizens firmly embrace the wisdom of our founding fathers. The United States of America is the most successful, innovative, productive, patriotic, and benevolent nation/country in the history of the world. There is only one reason for that-- our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Most Americans embrace our God-given right guaranteed by the second amendment. The right to conceal/carry has been legislatively granted, in varying forms, in 48 of our 50 states. Would you care to respond with the pertinent F.B.I. Uniform Crime Statistics so we can all be enlightened with the evidence that you alone possess? I sign my name because I am firm in my beliefs, how about you? Harold Beadling

Statistics show a substantial drop in violent crime in those states. Of course, in order to secure a permit, one would have to show knowledge of, and proficiency with, their firearms. Lessons, anyone? Harold Beadling
Harold, while I am in favor of concealed carry, mainly because of our current less than ideal situation, I think our time would be better spent pressuring our state representatives and senators to craft a system that does not create a subclass of punks who rob and kill. Concealed carry addresses the symptoms. For effective change to take place the root causes of these problems needs to be addressed. We, meaning current science, know what causes these problems, therefore we know how to uncause them. You can bet every one of those four individuals were created by our current system and their robbery and shooting of that man was highly predictable. For the most part laws, and crime and punishment are meant for the lower strata of our society. Most of our state representatives and senators are in a higher socio-economic strata and are thus much isolated from the realities of which I speak. We need to impress upon them the need for substantial change. We need to shout out loud "I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE"!

But if it's just you and me out there shouting, it ain't never gonna happen. I've come to believe that one of humankinds worse traits, the trait that keeps humankind from progressing in any substancial way, is the fact that most humans are willing to be sheep. The upper eschelon, the holders of power, have known this since the beginning of civilization, probably over 5000 years and have effectively used it to keep the masses in check ever since then.

The turmoil in the 1960's really had them shaken though but they recovered very nicely.

Now, where's my American Idol... I'm happy as long as I have my American Idol.

Most Europeans I speak are rating the US of A as a third world, retzrded, back water community that shouts hard and let all the others do the work for them. You prize so hard on your rights, but here in my cuntry we have the saying "If you have a gun, you invite crim into your house..." or "when you own a gun, you wil use it faster then you would reason or alarm someone".
Someone breaks into your house, gret, you shoot him and the individual dies.
Horror: It was an 18 year old kid who needed money because of the failing healthcare and economic system he had to do it, because he was forced into it. Could you live with that burden on your consicence?
I could certainly not.
I am glad in my country we have gun legislation, anda crime RATE THAT, WITH REPECT TO MURDERS DONE BY GUN OR GUN RELATED CRIMES IS 1,5 PERSON PER YEAR!

Maybe time to change something? Or are you gonna stop until we all have a gun, and we start shooting, instead of talking?
My two cents

Dear Dennis, The fact that you are here and not back home in your native land speaks volumes. I realize that most, third world guests of the United States don't understand our freedom. And if you are here as a refugee, you should be ashamed for biting the benevolent hand that feeds you. By the way, you neglected to mention your native country. I understand why you think guns should be banned, it enables the criminal, or is he the actual victim, to more easily rape, rob, and murder. It's not his fault, it's the way he was raised! Maybe we should arrest the parents instead. And, yes I would feel bad about "capping" some miscreant who just kicked down my door and is coming after me next. Are you from the U.N.? Harold

No, I am not form the UN, although part of my education was to learn about global politics and International Law. I learned alot also about the US legal system and about the Bill of Rights. Maybe they should be overhauled, or at least updated. Maybe they worked perfectly in 1776 and up until the 19th century, but times change and things change and people change.
Restricting gun use will lower the crimerate. It is a proven fact. Giving everybody guns will only make things worse.
In my country, the legal department has stated the fact that there are 4 catagory of weapons. Usage or even posession of a weapon from any of these weapons is illegal by law and met with the stiffest penalties, even consenting one in to jail for up to 5 years for illegal gun posession.
If you need a permit, you fill in a form, 3fold, 2 times and send it to the ustice department.
A thoriough background check is made, taking from as much as 12 weeks to complete, knowing fully sure you are not a criminal, or have ties to any.
Even when you have the permit, you are, by law, required to submit to RANDOM searches to your house or car, looking if your weapon is stored correctly.
So, that is ho we keep gun related crimes at bay.
And I do not live in the US, I am still a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. And we are hardly third world material...
Freedom is nice, but freedom is also something to be weary of.

Dear Dennis, I read alot about Holland, how are all those angry new immigrants working out for you people? The U.S. is still the beacon of freedom in the world, and you people are about to see a good example of that on the 2nd day of November, 2010, when the good people of this nation come out to vote, rejecting the current administration's push to turn us into you. I get a very sick feeling inside when I think that our good citizens were taken in by so many lies--but the beauty of our political system provides for constant change, never allowing any radical push to take a firm hold before being rejected by the free American electorate. I'm sorry that you have esteem problems caused by the nanny state you were raised in and also that other much greater threat to your existence, you know of what I speak! Allahu Akhbar Harold Beadling Oh, maybe I'm not allowed to say that

This seems fitting.....
