Bob Sabonjian our new mayor
#1
We all have many hopes for Waukegan. I grew up here. I want this to be a cool safe place for my children to grow up in. I don't know much about Bob's past but I'll find out what I can. I wish him all the best for all of our sakes.

I had a chance to hear what Bob said at the CREW evening and at the debate. Several items remain with me;

-He said that 'code compliance must be accomplished with ruthless efficiency.' He shared the affects that our over-crowdedness has on our schools and neighborhood qualities. Finally the bottom line was safety. I hope he follows through with this.

-Bob said no casino. That the lakefront should have industry and homes/other businesses.

-Need to put a professional face on government to attract businesses.

-Bob mentioned Wriglyville numerous times -that we could be like that. That we must attract the young. And make CLC a four year college.

-He would have the reputation of cracking down on gangs.

-Told a tale of a jurist once who was warned not to have lunch in downtown Waukegan as it was dangerous. Go to Gurnee...

-Would revisit the car confiscations as it is against a certain segment. But realizes that there should be a disincentive for DUI's and no insurance.

-County pays $8 million for Waukegan's health needs.

-Believes mayor should visit every school and crack down on overcrowding.

-He would not support any initiative that targets those not hurting us. Not for 287g.

Quote:-He would not support any initiative that targets those not hurting us. Not for 287g.

Is he saying that if one is illegal and not robbing us at gunpoint that they are not hurting us?

Do we really need to go over again and again what the illegal population is doing to this area?

Killing healthcare, killing our schools, our citizen's chances at jobs?

If it is true Hyde withdrew our 287g application Sabonjian better get it back on tract, if not then we should have a recall vote. He has to go. There is not one good reason not to have 287g authority.

I'm sure the sheriff will not stop his quest for 287g. I certainly hope not.

I should clarify. He said that 'if they are not hurting anyone we should leave them alone' but that if they do a crime they should be arrested.

I'm sure it will be as it is with President Obama. There are so many more pressing issues in the country and in our own Waukegan that they must be taken care of first. And he has this council till 2011.

Yesterday NYT's reporter Julia Preston (she did an article about Waukegan two years ago) wrote an article about Obama wanting to start with immigration reform talks in May. Celia Munoz made the announcement. There has been quite a stir about this announcement and already the press secretary made a bit of a retraction on that. I'll post the article and an analysis of this by NumbersUSA later -Celia Munoz was basically thrown under the bus to see what such an announcement would bring about.

Not even in office and lots of comments every night in Talk of the County about 287g, towing, insurance, etc... Smile

Does anyone know the schedule for May 4th? I heard it would happen during the day -the change over in power. I had wanted to go but don't know if I can make it then...

I believe the swearing in ceremony is during the city council meeting at 8pm.... And that the new mayor will not actually take office until May 11.

Fedup, I ignore those comments for I know where they come from and have little, if any, respect for those.......... sore losers and bigots.

I heard a rumor that I hope is not true. Bob Sabonjian is considering Steve Kolber for Building Comissioner. Any truth to this?

I hope not. Although Kolber is an architect, he does not have the training to be buiding commissoner and not very succesful career. Besides that, he is a vindictive, know it all.
