The mayor made a commitment to be at an event that was designed to inform the citizens of Waukegan who is best qualified to lead our City for the next four years. If the mayor thinks it is more important to be at a rally rather than choose to honor his commitments, then letâs simply factor that in when considering his decision making tactics.
Those kids deserve every bit of congratulations they are getting. But the elected leader of our city is not their buddy to be there to high five them as they roll back into town. He is someone that should be looking out for their best interests, which by definition of his job, is far more wide ranging than pep rallies.
Everyone will be out today, certainly, as they should be.
Mayor Hyde did not blow off the debate to hang out with the basketball team, he simply showed the degree of his integrity as the executive leader of our City.

so you are telling me that if Bob Sabonjian or anyone else was mayor of this city at this point and time that they too would have chosen the debate over supporting citizens of this community and their accomplishments? I really do not think so....I would like to hear that directly from the other two candidates. If so their priorities are all screwed up and do not need to be leading this city.

The debate was only two hours long. Was there some reason that the basketball celebration needed to overlap? It was either done deliberately, or through ignorance; neither is a good excuse.

The basketball celebrtion was going by the schedule when the bus returned with the team from Peoria. Based on the time vs. distance theory it was estimated to be back in town around 2:00pm for a welcoing celebration.

I cannot label myself a Dick supported and nor should you label me one. Just because I am defending the mayor of this community for supporting a good thing going on for this town does not mean I am a supporter. Frankly I have not made up my mind yet. Honestly I do not think any of the candidates have much to offer Waukegan. What has Sabonjian done on the County Board? Given himself a big raise at my expense...that is all I have heard about. As far as I am concerned he is running on his name and he is nothing like his dad and does not share the same political values or ideals. The other gentlemen I do not know and have not heard of I will have to read up more on him. Hyde has done good for the city and bad. He has worked hard to bring businesses to waukegan only to be outdone by politics and money. The city is on a nuetral course as far as I am concerned. I think we definitly need to change course on the school board...they are way too administrator heavy and not enough goes to the teachers and kids. The recent decisions that they have made are going to take them two steps backwards. The Park District is great! Some of the best parks around and they have genuine plans for the future. I too could not attend the debate because I chose to support the children of our community and their accomplishments. I will definitley not be voting early because my mind is not made up and it could change between now and April 7th. So now what makes you tick and why should I support the other guy? If you are campaining on this forum there are only about 3 Waukegan registered voters (with me being one of them) on this entire site I would maybe concentrate my efforts somewhere where people actullay vote

I you'd gone to the forum instead of the pep rally, you'd be more informed about the candidates.
Sabonjian was one of two or maybe three county commissioners who voted AGAINST their own pay increases.
Sabonjian has a website where you can learn more about him and his campaign.

Hyde didn't even bother to have a website.
Kind of in keeping with his apparent lack of interest in informing the voters.
