Got home a few minutes ago. Going to take time to write down some notes as SO much went on. I hope others give some highlights as well.

Candidate Guzman certainly is a colorful character. They introduced each candidate. There was big roar when they announced his name. He raised both of his hands high in the air like a conquering hero.

I just don't get it. His whole platform today was stopping police harassment, no more code enforcement going into homes (and charging $750 for a guy who had a bed in the basement) and no more towing fees. "Gimme six months..." That's his promise for change.

The large audience ate it up and we heard several cries of "Si, se puede Jose."

This was not the forum apparently but when will he be asked about allegedly hiring someone to break Mr. Zavala's windows and rob his home? When will the News Sun print that? This large crowd has a right to know what they are getting into -more Chicago style push politics. Mr. Guzman said he would fire anyone guilty of abuse or harassment. Hmmmm....

I'm going to go take some notes as there were a lot of gems.

Fedup:
I just got back too. A debate is a forum in which opposing sides use reasoned arguments. There were no reasoned arguments, just a lot of hot air from Mr. Guzman.
CREW has decided to back Robert Sabonjian, and after this afternoon's performance I hope many others will follow suit.....

Wrote up some notes. Will try to post them later for those who couldn't be at the debate today.

I was thinking about the wave Mr. Guzman made. This is exactly what it was like. For those of you who have seen Evita you know what I mean... I'm not saying he looks like this, just that it was this kind of 'my people, my people' triumphant wave. Confusedhock:

The Waukegan Leadership Council did a fairly good job of disguising and presenting their Guzman Rally as a fair and unbiased debate.

Smile... Yes, this was my first exposure to Porfino Garcia, WLC founder. He spoke about the pledge of allegiance, one nation under God, we are determined to empower you, we are not going to be silent, represent the faces of America... Yet, I cannot tell you how many people didn't put their hands over their hearts or look in the direction of the flag during the pledge. I looked at one guy and he just shrugged his shoulders and smirked at me.

I kept thinking; do these good people know what Mr. Guzman has allegedly done if you withdraw your support. Was Mr. Zavala there?

What a 'debate'! Can't wait to see how the papers cover it.

Univision Chicago was there. No video on their site yet. When it does I'll post it.

i also attended, but decided to leave very early because the entire thing was a waste of time. GUZMAN IS INSANE and DANGEROUS. the crowd cheering this man on should be ashamed of themselves. if that is the best the spanish community has to offer god help them. i am sure there are real leaders in the spanish community that are embarassed that this is the man is claiming to represent them. those leaders need to come forward.
