Waukegan Mayoral Debate Feb. 8th at WHS?
#11
I couldn't agree more with you Jeff - but you do need to... as they say... "keep your friends close and your enemies closer". You do need to know all the candidates - and what they are saying...

It just disturbs me... all this talk about reversing the steps we've made towards 287g.. that sounds to me like saying its okay - to allow criminals... that we want to work with felons... give them a break if you will.. Thats NOT the community I want to live in. One where I am afraid to walk the streets at night because of gang bangers, druggies and sex offenders. I want a community that I am not ashamed to tell people I am from. Right now you tell anybody you're from Waukegan - and the first thing they think of is gang graffiti, druggies & undocumented residents that don't speak English.

Makes me so proud of my hometown.
God Bless America.

Anytime I'm in a social or business situation in Illinois and talk gets around to "where you live" I always have to addendum "I live in Waukegan" with "it has a lot of potential" and "the housing is equivalent to anything found in Evanston or Lake Forest," etc. I say this not with shame but hope. One day I can, hopefully, say, "Yeah, I invested in Waukegan as a resident and taxpayer back in the early 2000s and I'm damn proud to live there now that it's turned around."

JeffK Wrote:I would stay away from this group. Obviously, a group with its own very specific agenda. We want to attract more taxable residents and businesses and create a community of strivers and achievers and not "mob rule" type groups who want to disrupt our progress.

ActionNow seems like a better choice than CREW. Atlleast they are holding a public event so everyone can hear the candidates. Instead of holding secret meetings and telling us non-striver underachievers who we should vote for because we're too stupid to hear the candidates and think for ourselves. I didn't see any "mob rule" with ActionNow. Why would you say such a thing? How are they disrupting "your" progress if they are fighting for safer neighborhoods and increased voter turnout?

I wonder if Mr. Guzman will clear this issue up and/or deny it ever happened at the debate this Sunday. LaRaza is reporting that a local Waukegan businessman is accusing Mr. Guzman of giving a vagrant $20 to go break his windows? Says that a police report has been made. Mr. Guzman said it wold be a real loss to our community if he didn't win. Chicago-style politics?

• To the Mexican precandidate to the mayorship of Waukegan, Jose L. Guzmán, left a rival to him, and not indeed to compete by that position of election. Another Mexican that was identified as the retailer Jose Luis Zavala contacted to diverse mass media, and accused Guzmán to contract a vagabond to destroy to the glasses of his business and address, also in Waukegan. Zavala spoke with the Race to show supposed tests, among them a video and the formal denunciation done before the Department of Police. The retailer, who refused to that outside recorded his complaint, did not show the number of case that rose before the police, and either said that she did not find it. Nevertheless, yes he showed a video in which a vagabond assumption that he identifies himself like " Michael R. Young" , without fixed address, `confiesa' before the camera to be contracted by so " Jose Guzmán" by 20 dollars so that he destroyed to the glasses of the business and address of the Zavala retailer. The denouncer said to the Race to be right his to suspect that behind all this he is the precandidate Jose L. Guzmán. On the other hand Jose L. Guzmán declared to the Race that was not going to make declaration some, but anticipated that of not winning, " the whole town would lose good oportunidad". Guzmán said that it has working five lawyers to face the accusation and it will not say nothing else on the matter. The Department of Police of Waukegan neither confirmed nor denied that an investigation against Guzmán is being carried out.

Here's a link and picture from the actual LaRaza article. It should be translated.

Again...you are invited to attend any and all CREW meetings, just go to the CREW site. No dues. No financial contributions. If we were truly elite, there would be fees, etc. We are not secret. We are not part of the Illumnati or the Trilateral Commission. Matter of fact, I use my real name in these forums. Obviously, you can vote for whoever you want to. That is part of being an American citizen. Oh, yeah, thanks for calling me the "hoi poloi." If you took the time to know me, you would know that is quite the opposite and my background is very, very blue collar and one generation from poverty. I wear Levis, drive a Chevy pickup, listen to Merle Haggard, eat cornbread and beans, but also read three-four books a week and multiple periodicals and newspapers. So take it easy with the sweeping generalizations....Have a good one.

I have yet to read a single post in which you have anything pleasant to say about anyone or anything. I can only assume from this that you are the one with the over-inflated ego. Clearly you believe you are far superior to everyone else on this forum. Either that or you are a misanthrope.

We invested in Waukegan back in 1960... We're not always so proud of what we've become.
