Shouldn't the Historical people know?

Supposedly the fort was some kind of trading post back in the Lewis & Clark days. Just a place to stop along Lake Michigan for boats heading north and south along its western shore. Like Chicago, earliest non-native settlers were French, etc. etc. (Nothing about it on Wikipedia or anything?) You could also ask around at the Library, or perhaps if anybody in the historical society is still at Bowen Park, you might have some luck there.
