Get involved Waukegan...It's about time!

I have been watching the two posts about Main Street and Robin Schabes, and am amazed and proud that the feedback is coming in as briskly as it is. Waukegan residents are too passive; if you lived in surrounding cities, you'd find that the residents engage their city officials, not just sit on their hands. It makes me furious to see city officials take advantage of our tax dollars; they're getting a free ride. Don't be fools...they aren't working for us...they're working for their own egos!

Start questioning the dirty bastards! Are we actually proud of our city officials? I'm not! Including the alderman, they're all embarrassing! Surrounding cities laugh at Waukegan for our lack of professional leadership!

It's time to stop the status quo and demand results! Let's upgrade our image...not be the laughing stock of the "North Shore."

It's time to stop wasting your tax dollars paying these people who do nothing!

Get off your asses and get involved...go to city council meetings...call code enforcement when your neighbor has 14 people living in the house...report graffetti...don't give away the city like our elected officials have done.

Hi Westleigh, good points you make. This Main Street deal with Ms. Miller leaving seems to have caught on because it was really reported well in The News-Sun today. There are persons I have never heard of in this article, like this James Donovan who heads the Waukegan Main Street chapter. He seems to have a lot of control over our downtown for someone that is not elected by the public to any public office. Where is the Mayor and the Aldermen in all of this?

Then I read here about this Robin Shabes, who I never heard of. She is the development director of Waukegan, but what is she developing ? It is hard to believe she might be making $100K a year by one of the posts here, though that is not confirmed. Still, she must be getting some public money so it is a fair question to ask what is she developing ?

Lots of mysteries around this city. Strange thing is that there always seems to be enough money for the politician's pockets in this city no matter how "broke" they tell us we are. Go figure that one out. Guess that is why they are politicians, lol.

I don't know your current involvement with our city, but yes, I think any taxpaying, eligible-to-vote Waukegan residents who have not gotten involved "should" get off their asses and involve themselves today! It's not a slam on you personally, this is a call to action to make your city better.

Get to those Council meetings...sit in the audience and listen to what they say...educate yourself. I'll see you there, my friend.

I have been living in Waukegan for seventy years and I attended many meeting in the old city hall...the vast majority of those meetings. Our mayor at that time was
Mayor Coulson. Need I say more? I continue to be very active with politics in Waukegan. How many meeting have you attended ? Been there done that...I know what is going on.
