Two Waukegan robberies result in arrests

The suspect was shot during the robbery of a bakery on the 700 block of Yeoman Street yesterday.
According to police, Demitrius Newbill, 29, of the 500 block of Poplar Street entered a bakery and reportedly asked the clerk for a pen and paper on which he wrote, "Give me the money I have a gun."
Newbill appeared to be holding something under his shirt, police said. The clerk handed an unknown amount of money to Newbill and as Newbill exited the store, the clerk pulled out a .38 caliber handgun and shot at Newbill, officers said.
Newbill fled from the scene on foot, police said.
Officers later surrounded a house on the 1400 block of West Ridgeland Avenue in which they believed Newbill to be and apprehended him. He was found to be shot in the chest and was transported to Vista East Hospital where he was treated, officers said.
Newbill has been charged with aggravated robbery and will be transferred to Lake County bond court following his release from the hospital, police said.
In a separate incident yesterday, Waukegan police responded to an armed robbery on the 1700 block of West Monroe Street. Two men reportedly approached the victim and demanded his wallet and keys. Both suspects then drove off in the victim's car but stopped a short distance away and fled the scene on foot, police said.
Officers apprehended Gindeal Lyons, 17, of the 8300 block of South Ingleside Avenue and one other suspect. The victim identitfied both suspects. Police also recovered a BB gun believed to have been used in the incident. The victim's wallet and car were returned to the victim.
Lyons has been charged with aggravated robbery and is being held in the Lake County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. The second subject was released without charges.
A police spokesman said further investigation revealed the second suspect was not aware of what was going on, and the Lake County state's attorney's office declined to charge him.
