Park City 'pleasantly surprised' to be named in gaming bill

PARK CITY -- Mayor Steve Pannell said he was "pleasantly surprised" after learning his town could be one of the next recipients of a "huge" casino license.

On Wednesday, state Sen. Terry Link, D-Waukegan, told Mayor Pannell that the casino would be "huge".

"This would be huge for the city," Pannell said.

This is a joke, right?

With all of Link's supposed clout, the state decided they'd make more money out of Des Plaines. Now, Link wants us to believe that a dinky little village with no real infrastructure, no support services, and little government control can be in the running for a casino license?

Waukegan of the only one of the original municipalities slated to receive a casino to currently not to have a casino. But I wonder if such a casino would do any good?

If Park city gets a casino, Waukegan schools will benefit and so will the city itself but we will not have to pay for the extra police or infrastructure... Park City will need to do that. The GOB's are already planning 4 years ahead in trying to make Sabonjian look bad with this. The people who voted for Sabonjian knew or should have known that he was not pro casino, so, at least for me, it's not a surprise at all that Sabonjian turned Link's offer down. Anyone... including Terry Link, who attempts to make Sabonjian look bad on this one is most likely a sore loser. These pathetic politicians don't seem to understand that more money is not really the sole answer to what ails Waukegan.
